love the series and can't wait to get part 2. i have to agree that the first set of episodes is not fairy tail at its best but it gets better with the s class quest arc and is definitely at its best once you get to the phantom arc (which starts in part 2).
that said i disagree about the music, fairy tail has one of the best sound tracks out there and i never get sick of the music as it starts up during the big fights.
anyways everyone needs to get these sets so funi licenses season 2 cause the show only gets better from here.
also i love the dub, funi did a great job with casting for this one.

Fairy Tail is my second favorite shounen anime after Naruto. Definitely going to pick it up to support it and have it in my collection.

Love FT to pieces, but I have to admit the first chunk of eppies are not stellar. Really glad I stuck with it, though.

I agree with everything but the score for the music. FT has one of the best musical scores I;ve heard in a while, and definently the best out of all the shonen stuff.
That being said I agree the first 11 episodes or so are really mediocore and low budget. The anime doesn;t really start improving on the manga until after that. Though from where the series is right now I would say it;s vastly better at getting the story across than the manga right now.

I agree with the review, particularly early on the show is incredibly low budget. For example, they recycle Natsu's signature moves to death and it becomes a real annoyance after a few episodes, especially since it doesn't look that great. Also Natsu's motion sickness issues get ridiculous and tiresome as we move on. However, the show does improve visually and musically over time. Story wise its pure shonen which brings both some good and not so good elements with it. If you love shonen though, you can hardly go wrong with FT as its a pretty fun romp.

Fairy Tail is a lot like One Piece, the beginning is a little shaky but what comes later is definitely worth sticking around for.
Also I really need to give Cherami Leigh credit for an awesome performance as Lucy.

As mentioned before, i agree with everything except the music. its got a great soundtrack especially the awesome celtic rock that populates the show which makes it feel as unique and awesome as kohei tanaka's one piece soundtrack thats populated by trumpet focused tomfoolery.

I happened to check out the first few episodes via Hulu only a couple of months ago, and that was enough for me to pre-order the first volume. But, I have to admit that I'm a big, big sucker for fantasy/magical abilities/superpower anime. Usually the characters are a lot of fun to watch, and Fairy Tail is no different in that aspect.
I will say that this volume has what I'd classify as one genuine filler episode. Its titled, "Natsu Devours a Village". Anyway, that one episode is some of the stupidest filler I have watched. Its totally geared toward kids with the whole "oh they're so hungry they all go crazy and try to eat these beast/monster creatures". That is supposed to be entertaining/funny? Not for me, and this being a shounen show, I expect more filler to come. It makes me cringe to think that all those filler episodes will be as bottom-of-the-barrel dumb.
Last note, the dub really helped sell this for me. I love hearing Chermi Leigh and Todd Haberkorn together. Of course, I love them separately too, but there's just something about them playing opposite each other.

FT is awesome, but I really tire of the unwanted fanservice especially in a show that is supposed to be for kids. I think Lucy gets a bad rap early on, but becomes more sympathetic in the later arcs. Ditto for Juvia. As for animal sidekicks, HAPPY IS AWESOME!

So is this "less than stellar" (according to even fans of the show) part of FT still better than Fate/Zero as Carlo thinks (C+ versus D in story)?
Who watched both and could confirm it?

I got to say that I don't like animals or children as sidekicks, but Happy is definitely the exception. He's a blast.
Another thing from what I've seen of the manga, and I haven't read a lot of it mind you, I found the anime art to better in general. I thought the anime characters are more refined and distinctive looking while the manga characters seem a little more roughed out.

Complaining about the fanservice in Fairy Tail is like complaining about the fanservice in Highschool of the Dead. That's half of the point. I do love how far they keep pushing it, though. Each arc seems to push the envelope a bit more, and the OVAs as well.

future filler episodes aren't as bad as that one and are actually pretty good. mind you there is not alot of filler in the first 48 episodes since the show was initially supposed to be only 48 episodes to begin with.

It indeed is but i wouldnt say that early fairy tail tops Fate/Zero which is at least tolarable at the start then gets awesome. only reason i kept with the show (fairy tail) is cause i was caught up with the manga and knew it got better otherwise i wouldnt have bothered. Set 2 ends on the worst cliffhanger, though by that time you'll be in love with the show anyway.

Ah, okay. I was hoping that would be the case. The filler wasn't going to deter me from watching in any case. If it did stay as stupid, I would just skip those episodes
