Thats great for you Canadians, now you can buy more Geneon DVDs at lower prices. Geneon must be getting smarter, or decided that they didn't need a 3rd party distributor for Canada (probably the reason for the higher prices)

I believe they're still using Vid Canada for their distribution, but just changed their distribution plan. Vid Canada distributes titles for other companies that have much more appropriate pricing.
I should also note that these changes have so far only affected online stores. Future Shop's website is still listing June releases with the $49.99 MSRP, so hopefully that will be fixed as soon as possible. Although I'm still curious about how they plan to get rid of all the old titles that have been taking up shelf space for years now. |

All Geneon & ADV need to do now is to let a Canadian Broadcasting company broadcast their anime & then it'll be like heaven on earth. |

they force it on us tho haha most of us choose not to learn it tho, so we get by with passing marks but the kids who do pay attention in it can speak it quite well, even if they aren't from Quebec, my dad is from Greece, and when he came out over here when he was 14 didn't know anything but greek, he taught himself in under 2 weeks to speak French and English! |

That a start, but what about Bandai and ADV?
Anime from them still cost $50+. I have doubts whether or not we will see cheaper anime DVDs in the local Canadian stores. |

Umm, that's an outdated solicitation, and Chapters always overcharges for DVDs. Bandai and ADV products also carry $36.99 MSRP, as they should.
And I don't speak a word of French. |

I've always found Bandai and Geneon to always be overpriced for their anime. I mean, at $50 a disc when the typical ADV show is "sitting pretty" around $35 (and less in some cases) just really makes me think twice about buying stuff.
I'd love to support the companies, but the price point is a bit high for my wallet. (Case in point: Trigun. 8 discs at $50 a go is not reasonable, in my opinion. Thank goodness for the Signature Series.) This is a move in the right direction, and hopefully from hereon in I won't be looking only at the ADV releases because they are cheaper. |

I guess I'm lucky. I found a store in Toronto that sells anime for cheaper than most other stores. For instance, Samurai Champloo is around $45.00 at Best Buy and it's only $35 at this store. Most of the titles are under $30. And manga prices are $11.99 instead of the $14-15.99 that I see elsewhere.
I'm glad Geneon is lowering prices a bit because they have a lot of the animes that I buy. |

That's a specialty retailer. What's being discussed here is mainly mainstream online and B&M retailers.

All I'm saying is that every other store around here that I know of (including other specialty stores and mainstream stores) all have high prices for anime/manga. Be nice though if I could pick up Samurai Champloo for cheap(er) no matter which store I go into.
And it's actually a video game store that happens to sell anime. |
