I'm pretty sure the "thongs" on Daphne are just some Spirit Gum the girls stuck to their butts to avoid violating indecent exposure laws. But then again, it is THE FUTURE, and if there's one field science is going to conquer in the next 100 years, it's anti-gravity undies. Mark my words.
I want my prize now. [edit! Gah! Title! -b] |

Why is Scrapped Princess on the Rental Shelf side of things? Such a great series is treated so poorly by our Shelf Life columnist.... Tsk, and even this:
And yes, Scrapped Princess does pick up and get alot better as it goes along. |

I've only seen one episode of Scrapped Princess and didn't feel strongly about it either way, but I'm still slightly offended that it was confused with the soul-destroying awfulness that is Sister Princess!

i've heard the ending to scrapped Princess is terrible, and that's been enough to keep me away from this show.

holy shit someone doesn't something regarded highly with a majority of fandom oh no that never happens what shall we do oh no! Though since the DVD accounts for four weeks of programming, If you don't like it by then, then there's little to no reason to keep going. |

It seems fair to put Scrapped Princess on the rental shelf for now, though, as it doesn't pick up immediately. When it does, though, I imagine the wait for each volume will get to be agonizing. I love New Getter Robo, but it also seems fair to call it rental material - for anyone who isn't a big robot or action fan, anyway. This is definitely a keeper for robot fans so far. The action scenes, both in and out of the Getter, are really cool. Especially anything involving Hayato. I can't get enough of that guy now. |

Ahhh... the wonderful writing that is Shelf Life... I'm so glad to see a new column! I have to say I almost fell out of my chair from laughter after reading:
Word. |

Usually, I agree with most of Bamboo's placements of the titles she reviews. However, the placement of Scrapped Princess as a rental is the first placement that I vehemently disagree with. This should be a shelf-worthy title; if you want proof, read Theron's excellent reviewof Scrapped Princess he did a couple of weeks ago. I mentioned in the related thread that I predicted that Scrapped Princess will be the model for what fantasy anime should look like, and despite what some people might say, I'm still sticking with my prediction.
I mentioned a few hundred times that I prefer Spiral over the ultra-repetitive Detective Conan, and Vol. 3 didn't disappoint me one bit. This series, as Bamboo accurately stated, is a lot of fun to watch. The cliffhangers and death-dodging are what makes Spiral so appealing, something that is sorely missing in Conan. Okay, that line was a little mean. But, like I said, I have high hopes for it. I haven't seen any of the series past volume one, so I guess I haven't gotten a good taste of the "great series" part yet. I'm sure I'll grow to like it though, since there's so much good word out about it. I'm anxiously awaiting volume two, and I really hope it'll prove me wrong about placing it in Rental. |

Is it just me? The title for this edition of Shelf Life mentions Sister Princess... I thought we were going to enjoy seeing it trashed even more.

I have to agree about Divergence Eve. At first glance I thought it would be another Amazing Nurse Nanako, but after the first episode the show got better. Hopefully it'll stay good in later volumes (I only have the first one, but the second one in on order).

Hey! Leave my girls alone! Speaking of which, I'm very surprised that Divergence Eve made rental. I watched the first episode from the Newtype sampler disc (from Vol. 4-3, March 2005) and it was extremely terrible. Bamboo gave it a bad review when she reviewed it in Protoculture Addicts #83 (page 50), so it actually got better? I'm surprised. |

Is it bad that my favorite part about "Shelf Life" is reading about the mediocre anime this poor columnist has to watch?I don't know why but I just find it hilarious.
Oh and why does "SakechanBD" fly so often? |

It's not like it's a high quality series - I sat through 20+ episodes wondering where the plot element was supposed to come in. Of course at that time in my life, I had so much time on my hands that I would watch just about anything.
Well, oddly enough, you could feel just a bit of the hardcore sci-fi element in there. A terrible first episode? Definetly. Actually, the character designs in general are enough to keep me away, though I appreciate knowing there is more substance to it than I first thought. |

At all honestly, I remember being quite bored watching the first 4 episodes of Scrapped Princess on fansubs. Despite the fact of being a BONES series, I found it kinda of generic from the character designs, the costuming, the setting, and so forth. MASSIVE SPOILERS!spoiler[And later on when she got killed, I thought it was a cop-out when she got revived. ]
And I too was expecting another loli-trash review of Sister Princess. |
