It's anime-ish, but not made in Japan.

It's American, but the creators openly admit to borrowing from anime and the style in general. A dead giveaway aside from the names of the creators? The fact that every episode is its own stand alone. You only have the vague undercurrent of Slade running around every once in a while as a kind of glue.

That doesn't mean anything. There are anime where every episode is stand-alone as well. Anyway, no, Teen Titans is not anime. It was produced in North America, meaning that it doesn't fit the common definition of anime as Japanese-produced animation. I can't wait until we get that token smartass that always pops in going "but of corse its animu according to japane ALL cartunes r animu OMGOSH I SO CLEVAR KEKEKE ^_______^" Happens every time, after all. |

That's not entirely true. While most of the episodes can be watched alone, most of them also reference past episodes, especially those involving Slade, the HIVE, Terra, or any returning characters and villians. On top of that there are few multi episode story lines that you'd be somewhat lost in if you didn't see the first or second part of. It's not entirely episodic, there is a certain degree of continuity taking place as well. But like Nagisa said, this doesn't define something as anime or not.
It'd actually be funny if it wasn't true... Emerje |

No, and someone should sticky one these threads, or add an ammendment to the rules, I think. Should avoid at least some repeats of the same topic.

Er, you make it sound like all anime looks alike. Cowboy Bebop and Pokemon look totally different as well, does that mean one is anime and one isn't? Of course not! When you say "they" who are you talking about? Teen Titans versus all anime? Can be so diverse that there really is no difinitive anime look, it's easy to see why people can confuse something for being anime just by looking at it. Nowadays the line has gotten thinner, unless you're familiar with what you're watching it's easy to be mistaken. Emerje |
