Hi all. New here, thought you guys could help me out.
I'm trying to find the full Rurouni Kenshin series, subbed, on DVD, and since this is obviously a pretty hefty purchase (22 DVD's), I am trying to find the cheapest online retailer. I found www.[This URL is a known Bootlegging website], that sells the whole series for $120, but the site is suspiciously devoid of any information regarding themselves. Have any of you shopped there before? Do you know of any better place that I could get the whole series for a reasonable price? Thanks in advance for the help. nURF |

While this doesn't fully answer your question, I thought you should know that this site seems suspicious to me, since All-Region DVDs are typically pirated stuff. Any legitimate DVD has a region coding (if I'm wrong, let me know). Check out these threads for legitimate options: animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1879 animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1809 |

I've never purchased anything from meganimedvd but i have purchased many things 1000's of $$ worth from the following sites
www.[This URL is a known Bootlegging website] www.[This URL is a known Bootlegging website] www.[This URL is a known Bootlegging website] They carry many import Sub and Dub animes NON region coded IT doesn't mean they are Pirated at all the rights are just sold to diffrent countries who have diffrent restrictions on how they import and export anime. U will notice that the quality sometimes is not quite as good as the US region 1 DVD's but they are still great Transfers and cant beat the prices and Alot of them are just as good as Region 1 Transfers. as far as Kenshin i bought these 2 box sets of kenshin they are Subbed and Dubbed Great quality and price and the boxes are well made and have nice art inside and out. [EDIT - Snipped overly long URLs, particularly since they were linking directly to bootlegged products. heck, this whole thread should probably be wiped of URLs, but I'm letting it stay for some bizarre reason. maybe one of the other mods will have better sense. -C] |

I check over those sites, and yes the anime is pirated - for example, [This URL is a known Bootlegging website] has the season 4 of Ranma 1/2, all 24 episodes on 3 DVD's for only 33$. Needless to say this falls under the too good to be true catogory. The same deal applies to the other two sites as well, while all of them have some ligitimite anime, most of it is not.

The only legit all region anime DVDs I know about are some of the Central Park Media DVDs(or whatever division they are using) like the first Slayers collection. However, their newer DVDs may be region 1 now, but I'm not 100% sure.

In light of the examples given, I correct my previous statement with... "99% of the companies who create Non-Region Encoded DVDs have not purchased the rights from the original owners of the anime. Anyone who buys these DVDs support pirates." I prefer to err on the side of caution, and unless anyone can prove that a company that creates Non-Region Encoded DVDs has legitimately purchased the rights for a particular property, then I will assume that is pirated and go look elsewhere. I suppose it is cheaper to pay someone to pirate stuff for you than to purchase your own DVD burner and media...
As for "Animation Runner Kuromi," are you sure that it was released as a Region 0 DVD? It contradicts the information I found on it here: http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/784.php |

The original ARK DVD was R2 encoded. There was a later release, same price and features, that was region free. There're a few legit Odex region-free DVDs (I've said it before, and I'll say it again: There is no excuse for Boys Be... fan/digisubs to be floating around), but their newer releases are now R3 encoded. There quite a few non-bootleg region free DVDs out there. Most of the legit ones (ARK's rerelease being a notable exception) do not advertise that they are region free. If being region free is supposed to be a selling point, odds are that it's a bootleg. |
