This is occuring in Japan only, but do people really want to waste money on another format and especially if it is UMD?

First of all it's currently the most advanced form of widely known mainstream video media when compared to the DVD especially in format. Secondly, I don't think anyone even really read my post on the LAST UMD article.

They're trying to get publicity and support, plain and simple. Nothing bad to say about that.

No, it's not.. really. Nor will it take off as a largely distributed format beyond PSP. Blu-ray and or HD-DVD will be the "new" standard. Plain and simple.

I wouldn't mind umb used as a packin for games, especially anime games, to include maybe some episode 1's, or even a cinematic compilation of all the cutscenes.
I think it's utitlity lies in playing off the psp as opposed to just playing on the psp.

Ok, I'm sure I still didn't word that right. Yes I'm well aware of the Blu-ray and HD-DVD formats. They're just not, notice the key words, "current" not will be, "widely know" and "mainstream". I'm just trying to say that at this time it's the best standard digital format wise (i.e. MPEG4) for what it is and that it's widely known, it does have advertizing of course since SONY is exposing it to the mainstream. I haven't seen a thing on Blu-ray or HD-DVD in that sense as they're not really that mainstream yet.

My point you would know if you read my last post on a UMD article is that they're doing a great job in trying to bring something like that into the maintream console market, it's probably not going to suceed at this time I admit but it's certainly a good, solid step.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't UMD meant to be used mainly for handheld devices? In this case comparing it to next generation DVD formats (which aren't even out) makes little sense. I don't like the idea of watching movies on PSP but I think that having a universal portable storage format is not a bad idea.
