It doesn't really matter so long as you know about a few things in the series like Saitou's presence, the fact that Kenshin already knows the Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki, and that Sano has the Futae no Kiwami.

Other than that, the story is a stand alone plot that doesn't relate to the series at all.

So... I guess that'd be at least after episode 44?

But wouldn't it take place after Kyoto since I don't think there was enough time for it to happen before or in between.

Yeah, I'd personally watch it after Kyoto and not in between. Kyoto's story is so good and enthralling that watching the movie during the time you should be watching Kyoto would just ruin plot continuity and possibly throw off your train of thought completely Anime dazed.

I mean, the movie's OK, but it's nowhere near the level of story telling as Kyoto.

It takes place directly after Legend of Kyoto finishes, everything matches up. They have conversations about the farewell with Misao and Shishio, it all makes perfect sense.

Huh? They never even mention Kyoto in the movie (aside from Kenshin's experience during the Bakumatsu, let alone Shisho's name. Anime smallmouth.

No, no. Not the Tsuioku-hen OAV, the actual movie, Rurouni Kenshin: Ishin Shishi no Requiem.
