Minor nitpick about Togusa's Actions near the end of the show: The coin was supposed to go into the mouth, not put on the body to pay the Ferryman.

The text on Togasa's computer when it was being remote hacked? Acording to the translation the DVD provides one of the lines of text says "Sorano Genomics" the company victimized in the Laughing Man case. It looked like whoever was hacking it was manipulating his wife's investments in the company for whatever purpose. At least that's what I assume was going on because stock trading was the last thing she was doing before she shut it off. Whether this is fortunate or not for poor unsuspecting Togasa remains to be seen. It's not dealt with on the other two episodes on my DVD.

Actualy, there are too many traditions about this one
Greeks put coins on there eyes.
Romans in the mouth.
Egypt...took everything, burned it with them.
Norse...I cant really remember...I think they took swords with them.
the list goes on.
Its alright though if they got it wrong, evry anime has somthing screwed up about it.
Ex. Gundam wing, how can the walk around in a weightless enviroment? How can there be sound in space?
And at the end thats what i was gussing, the finacial stuff...but the shot on the baby...foreshadowing anyone?

But Egyptian and Norse Death Rites never mentioned a ferryman to get to the afterlife.

This the only problem I have with anime on TV they ignore the sign-only subs. I imagine that on the DVD they appear. Various TV series DVD have this option. Maybe you can post that on the Adult Swim forums and see if they reply.

Actually, the Romans had semi-modified tradtions adapted from the Greeks. Not only did they rename the gods (e.g. Zeus = Jupiter, etc.) but also they adapted some of the death rites as well.
Both cultures had a rite to put a coin in the mouth to pay Charon the Ferryman. If you didn't have such a coin, you'd roam around the river Cocytus for most of their afterlife and are not granted passage to Hades.

Yeah, this really bugs me. I'm used to fansubs, where they conscienciously add liner notes and sign subs to everything, so you're never at a loss as to what's going on. The CN dubs never have these, so a lot of scenes are really hard to understand.
