Of course they get a con once I move out of the state...

yay, when i finally move to a state that knows what anime is, they have a con. but it kinda sucks that the only other con i've been to is Anime Expo, and it just wouldn't make sense comparing the 2 together. don't know if i should be looking forward for this or not.

It's a first year convention, so don't expect everything to run perfectly. It will also be a smaller convention than Anime Expo, due simply to limited initial capital and venue space. However, I know I'm looking forward to it, though I *may* be a bit biased as I am a staffer and therefore privy to all the internal planning and informational tidbits.

:) I'm going to this event, it sounds fun. I have my doubts about their programming (sorry, but I do.) but I'll go to see Yoshitaka Amano anytime! I just hope they'll get good dealers. Phoenix is, if I can recall, either the fastest or second fastest growing city in the United states, so it's a very good place to start a con.

That's fair. Again, it's a first year con, so don't expect the exact same experience as an AX or a Fanime. Things will only get better with time.

I'm still hesitant about going (never been to a convention before) and it's also a first year con. Hmm... LOTS of things could go wrong, but then it's a first year and it needs all the support it can get locally. I guess I'll go call some friends...

Great...but when are they gonna put one in Jacksonville, I mean it'd be good to see fans from north Florida and south Georgia.

I imagine that'd be a job for north Florida / south Georgia fandom. It only takes a few energetic people to at the very least gauge the demand for a convention in the area.
Remember that the Phoenix metro area has more people than San Diego, Kansas City (Missouri), Pittsburgh, and Des Moines -- COMBINED. (Estimate: 3.3 million people) It's not exactly a small town. This is way overdue, and I'm extremely happy to be a part of it. |

Well, I for one am very, very excited that Arizona is finally going to have its own con. I just hope that there will be a good turnout so that we get to have another one! This will be my first one..and I must say I have been reading about con after con in Newtype and Animerica just hoping one would finally spring up here. In fact, I had started thinking about how I could start one up but then low and behold! ANIZONA! YAY! I have signed up for the video game tournament as well, so any one that wants a challenge should sign up! I am still thinking about signing up to volunteer for a day, but am not sure if I would want to miss any of the con, so I am still thinking about it. To MiwaSatoshi: Do you know where your need is at for helpers so far? Just wondering. Well, hopefully it will be a huge success and hopefully we will have one every year from now on! AND WAY TO GO ON GETTING Yoshitaka Amano TO COME TO ANIZONA! I CAN'T WAIT! WHOO HOO!

Refer to http://www.anizona.org/forums : there is a Volunteer section there where you can get more information on that.

I live out in Scottsdale...not as far as you, but still quite a ways from where this con is at, but I will be there everyday for as long as I can stay. I am kinda mad they picked Easter weekend, though. That will certainly decrease my ablity to be there as much as I would like to be. But, I can't complain. At least we finally have a con to enjoy. We are like the 4th largest city in the US now...you would think we would start getting some attention. But we still get skipped all the time for anime movie releases (such as Appleseed..darn it.), concerts and the like...
But I would like to think Howl's Moving Castle will make it here. Fingers crossed. |

If any of ya meet Amano, find out how him and Bowie ended up working together.
