Yikes.

I said this in the other thread, but it still should be noted that a "Viewer Discretion is Advised" notice appeared before the OP.

I am surprised that it was even aired.

With the edits I am not supprised that it did air. While the subject matter was somewhat extream, it was no worse than what you can see on CNN if you tune in at the right (or some would say wrong) time.

The difference is, you don't exactly tune into CNN for entertainment needs. That's not their area.
And ugh. While I am somewhat glad about the minimal edits and such, it was indeed a quite disturbing episode. I kinda ignored that View Discression is Advised warning before the episode aired. I was wondering what would warrent such a message. Well, I found out. Ugh...
Sorry. Stuff like that kinda like... grosses me out. I have kinda a weak stomach for stuff like that though. =/

Those people on CNN probably get in trouble when they spurt out the wrong words.

I would argue that, because of the way the news industry has become, that entertainment is their area. They have to entertain you enough to sell advertising. And there's still the saying, "if it bleeds, it leads."

Well, I guess there is entertainment news, but usually, when a person hears the word "entertainment", the first word they think of isn't likely to be "news". It's entertaining at times, but you can't really consider it entertainment.
And I would hate to think that people are "entertained" by the bloody stuff that happens in news and current events, but I think that's just how it is. =/

I've watched and rewatched this episode for almost two years, and still gives me the creeps. But only because of the story-line. I hate to tell this but other then the inclusion of the imfamous CN digital bikini, we're not missing much other then a dark out-line of a female form. Even the Japanese didn't add any anatomically correct form where the skin had been removed from the victims. It was the same dark mass that we saw here. The only other edits were the muteing of what few swear word that there were.

Weird, because GITS's lead-in featured just such a breast-fondling moment.

I'm so happy with the way these Episodes have been treated.
Muting Sware words always acceptable... well the big ones anyway. Hehe one could argue the "Dickhead" one. But wow simply amazed they didn't completely remove some of the scenes of the screaming woman.
I wonder how the rest of the series is like..

Since I couldn't watch TV last Saturday, I set a timer to tape Fullmetal Alchemist and GitS: SAC. Just curious: how bad is this episode? I'd just like a little warning so I can mentally prepare myself, if possible. (Spoiler tags might work well here.)

Why bother warning you? You'll watch it anyway. Shove that tape in and warm up some popcorn.

This episode shows how far AS has pushed the envelope's edges in terms of what can be shown on TV in animation. And their approach of using a special disclaimer may pave the way for shows where most episodes are okay for airing but certain individual ones are really rough fare. Even some editing of the "tough" ones is better than dropping them altogether. (^_*)

What is it with Americans and swearing?

This is a nasty episode, but editing it is wrong. I can accept some editing when broadcast it's on TV, but not on DVD. If you don't like swearing etc, you could buy one of those DVD players that edit the bad stuff out.
Alternatively, act like an adult, read the box and don't buy the disk if it's got bad language in.
