It's great to see such a wonderful show as Ano Hana to do so well in sales. It truly deserves it. It does surprise me that Star Driver has bombed though.

Is that the idea that "if you aint' first, you're last" mentality?
The chart covers the top 20 releases because placing in the top 20 in that market is a good thing for any series. Being number is a great but placing lower in the list is not bombing.

No, its the 'I only just made more sales that Freezing' mentality. I would say that considering that Star Driver had a fairly big budget that the level of sales shown would be very disappointing for the studio.

And the ridiculously high sales for Spring season continue. 6.4k BDs for Dog Days? Seriously? It'll probably break 10k combined before it's off the charts.
I am a bit sad that AnoHana had a pretty big drop from the vol 1 first week sales, but I hope it has a high second week to offset the drop.
But yeah. This is definitely the overall best selling season for TV series that I've ever seen. I hope this is a sign of good things to come for the anime industry in Japan.

OFC the budget and the Freezing complex. 5k sales in the 1st week for the 7th release most really be disappointing to the studio considering their budget.

Star Driver didn't "bomb", however it lost a LOT of its audience.
The first volume sold about 15.5k copies combined. Vol 7 sold ~7.2k copies. That's over a 50% loss, and while 7k combined is still profitable, I'm sure Bones would have rather retained the 15k it had from the first volume.

I agree that Bomb is probably too strong a word.
@ArsenicSteel. I'm not particularly interested in getting into a pissing contest, so I'll just prefix my comments with IANAAS (I Am Not An Animation Studio) Feel free to do what you wish with that.

Unlike typical otaku anime, Rapunzel may have legs almost as long as her hair.
