ok, it's not animated, but it's close enough.

I was really into sailormoon, when I was getting into anime, and I still enjoy it for sentimental reasons. The concept of a live action sailormoon was something I couldnt take seriously. One huge cosplayfest. I dont have a problem with cosplay, I dont do it myself, but I'm facinated with the concept. But this... I couldnt even get five minutes into the first episode. Cosplay nothwithstanding, when you got live action actors pulling off poses and other mannerisms in an Anime fashion it looks extremely silly. I really wanted to stick with it. Maybe it's got a good story, as is per Sailormoon, but with stuff like that it's impossible to take seriously.

I think it can work, but with over the the top material like Sailor Moon it should obviously be a bit tongue and cheek. For example, the live action Kikaider is really one of the funniest tv shows I've seen.

The first batch of episodes was pretty bad. (Up to ~episode 10.) But then it gets really good after that. I've watched the entire series plus the Special Act. It's loosely based on the manga, so if you're expecting it to be like the anime, you'll be disappointed.

Let's face it: Many people thought Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon was going to flop. They were wrong. Even I underestimated the series before episode 1 aired. It may not be faithful to the manga (well, neither was the anime), but Toei actually did a good job translating the story to live-action.

In the end, I wound up liking PGSM more than the anime.

I've only seen a couple of episodes of the anime but I have seen the first 34 episodes of the live-action series so far. Yeah, it's cheesy as hell and the action sequences are awful (but I'm told the latter is normal for sentai series) but it has a certain charm to it that has kept me watching - and, as other have said, it does get better as the series wears on.

A lot of the credit for the live-action version being watchable has to go to the casting decisions. These aren't world-class actors, but many of them are dead-on choices for their roles and understand exactly how seriously they should take their roles. The girl who plays Usagi in particular feels completely natural in her part; you can't fake that degree of infectious enthusiasm, and it's rare to see a simpleton character be so appealing.

I regard this Sailor Moon series as sentai, not really a live action anime. I'm a huge life long sentai fan so I was pretty much tolerable of the cheesy special effects and rubber monsters (plus add the fact I'm a Godzilla fan as well). I don't think Sailor Moon was that bad and it's cool to see female sentai. I've seen a whole lot worse like Abaranger.

If you thought Luna and Artemis as stuffed animals was bad. I thought the boss of Dekaranger (Doggie Kruger) was something else.

I actually do like this Sailor Moon series to be honest. I didn't put too much hype into this and I already knew what to expect in terms of costumes and special effects and all that other stuff so I was able to tolerate it and still enjoy the show. But too bad it's not Kamen Rider quality (which is where the live action Cutey Honey fits into).

What is sentai? Is that what they call "power ranger" type shows?

Sentai is Japanese for "Battle Team," though many fans prefer to use the term "Task Force."

Yeah, and don't judge sentai based off what you see in Power Rangers. You don't see any PC crap that Saban tries to push down people's throats in the real stuff. The story is more dark and more capturing though it won't really appeal to all people.

I mostly grew up with it when I first saw Bioman and just loved it since.

I wasn't really mad (was I?). But yeah, it's pretty much the best example to use to be honest.

I really need to sit down and finish watching The live action sailor moon. But so far from what I've seen I've liked it. The first episodes sucked but it got a lot better. Then again I love Sentai shows, The new Chou Sei Shin series of shows and Kamen Rider shows those are all wicked. Any of you guys interested in Those shows should look up TV-Nihon they got tons of info about them.

The live action Sailor Moon (sentai) series was great. It had all the angst, comedy, and corny-ness of the original series, and well, I just throughly enjoyed it.

Toei, more please!

I have yet to see it. I've seen a few parts but not much. I do like the regular anime though. . .
