Rather surprising since sexuality still seems to be a touchy subject for AS.

Based on what? Have you even seen half the stuff Adult Swim actually gets away with? Stand-Alone Complex is still pretty mild by comparison.

Most heavily edited episode so far but that will change.

Personally, I don't really see what this is doing here. I know I'm not supposed to "whine about free content" & all, but this seriously smacks of the sort of attitude you see out of embittered fanboys whenever 4Kids picks up another unmarketable kiddy show or something like Fullmetal Alchemist goes to TV...the whole "ew, it's going on tv it'll be edited SOOOOO BAD don't watch it!" thing. Just seems to me like ANN would be...sort of above this, maybe?

Not an Edit

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't this encouraged Cartoon Network to amend "Not an Edits" in the past? Why keep doing it? I mean, even beyond that, we can kinda see that it hasn't been edited, so telling us about something we saw is kinda redundant & unnecessary.

Didn't that one scene in Cowboy Bebop where a guy was with another guy in bed edited out?

It seems like AS could has a double standard if it's comedy and funny that has sex in it, it's okay but if it's serious it's a no no. But I'm just speculating about the "double standard" that AS may have. It could be that the edit in Ghost in the Shell was very um explicit/graphic to be shown on tv.

That was 2001, this is 2004. Editing standards for Adult Swim's anime have changed. Were this still 2001, the Edit Lists for Stand-Alone Complex (FLCL & Big O too, for that matter...and Read or Die) would likely have been a little bit longer.

There are people, such as myself, who don't watch anime on Cartoon Network (couldn't if I wanted to) who are curious to see what was, and wasn't edited out.

IMHO, Kyle should be commenting on the notable things that don't get edited.

I shouldn't comment on your disagreement regarding sexuality though, since as I stated above, I don't watch CN. But for my sake, please tell me what they do show? The most risque thing I know of has always been in terms of inuendo...

Way to freak out. It was a simple statement that alluded to the fact that there would be objectionable material in future episoeds that would result in heavier edits. Nothing more.

Your whiney overreaction makes you no better than the embittered fanboys you're talking about.

Eep, I forgot. Sorry. The whole "oh man,it only gets worse from here" comment kinda set me off and allowed me to forget such details... Anime smallmouth + sweatdrop

Well, many of Williams Street's own works show (and say/orate/moan) just about everything short of full frontal. Sealab even features dry humping on...several occasions, while Aqua Teen sports some sort of obvious sexual reference in every other joke (including the neighbour-character Carl's...thing for hookers and farm sex).

And beyond Williams Street, a few anime acquisitions have even gotten away with around that calibre material. FLCL featured Haruko's nude behind, much grinding by a few characters, and some rather...interesting use of a robotic clone of Naota's father Kamon as a "massager" (to quote Haruko from behind closed doors, "c'mon, I wanna stick it in"). Inu-Yasha featured the uncensored nude bodies of Kikyou & a couple other female demons - sans detailing, as most anime are by default - though admittedly Cartoon Network cut some of this stuff once the fans pointed it out. Stand-Alone Complex, of course, showed the bare chest of a cyborg...none of this would've been touched by Adult Swim with a ten foot pole around the time Bebop was airing (I even have my doubts that the spoiler[girl/girl kissing] in Read or Die would've made the cut back then). Even the in-house stuff by Williams Street was less raunchy back in the day (well...for the most part...Sealab's always been one of the raunchier offerings..."Chubby Cox" anyone?).

That was then, this is now. You have to remember that back in 2001, just the idea of airing an anime series on a high profile network at night targeting it towards adults was simply unthinkable. CN decided to step up and do it, but they had to play it safe as well.

ah comeone this is the same network that has a guy with a massive erection used in a trailor for a show (Venture Brothers)

CN has come a long way in redeeming themselfs.

All the edits so far I see why they did them.

I knew I was forgetting one. Bloody hell, every time Brock gets within ten feet of a woman the show becomes one step removed from cartoon porn. And some of the names even make the best James Bond punsters blush...spoiler[Molotov Cocktease,] indeed...

Wait, you were serious??? Shocked Sometimes I get the feeling that the sole purpose of some people here is to rip [adult swim] even though the edits have been receding in almost every show they get. Wolf's Rain, GitS: SAC, Fullmetal Alchemist --- it's like the people forget the days of Tenchi (LOVE THEM DIGITAL BIKINIS) and Escaflowne on FOX ('nuff said)!

OH YES, DEFINITELY. Columnists are forumgoers, too. Don't put them on pedestals. When I post at my site, I'm as much a regular joe as the other people.

Why would they edit the show on DVD? Confused
People would have a spaz if it was edited on DVD.
