I have a coupe questions about anime that I've seen from when I was a kid but done know whats it called or was it released back than.
1. there was one about a unicorn saving the planet from a beast or demon (no it was not a porn). the beast can turn things to stone and wanted the horn of the unicorn. Not sure if it was japanese animation but lots of people or creatures were dying and dont thing we would make a movie like that. I saw it back in the mid 80's. Any clues what it could be? 2. Was Dragonball Z release in the early 90's cause I remembered watching a part when goku and captain ginu were exchanging bodies on tv. 3. Was sailor moon release in the mid 80's to early 90's? I remembered watching a cartoon were this girl jumping into the air and all these bubble were in the background just like sailor moon when they do there special move or transform. |

1) Unico... see this thread in the "Ask John" forum of the AnimeNation.net forum for more info.
2) I forget exactly when DBZ started in Japan... I think the original Dragonball started in 1986. But it wasn't on American TV until 1997 or 1998. 3) Sailor Moon began on Japanese TV in March 1992, and was first shown on North American TV in August 1995. |

Oh boy, we got a Mazda boy on the Forum, there goes the neighborhood!
Just kidding, welcome! Anyway... I'm not sure on number 1. I believe DBZ and Sailormoon was syndicated for a while before it was on Cartoon Network. I actually remember seeing the one of the eps back in '96 on one of the local channels (I believe it was after Battletech - and for the record, that show sucked) |

DBZ was here before 99. I know I saw it when I was watching Sailor Moon around 1996. And my husband and I watched it when we were dating around 1998. Dragonball Z was syndicated in the US in 1996. Sailor Moon - 1995. There wasn't a specific channel that had either of them. So, while I could watch it on UPN here in Philly....out in California it may have been on WB at a totally different time. |

DBZ came out in the early 90's. I believe 92. I know that DB came out in 88 cause I was watching bootleg subtitles when it came out.

Might it have been original Dragon Ball? I can remember seeing that and Sailor Moon on the non afiliated network here in Seattle in the early '90's (1992?)

According to the Anime on TV website, DBZ wasn't on US TV until 1996. DB was on 1995. EDIT: Everything I can find says DB didn't come to the states until 1995..... |

Could be, but it also sounds a lot like the Rankin-Bass production The Last Unicorn whcich was shown several times on TV in the 80's. http://www.yesterdayland.com/popopedia/shows/movies/mv1226.php They're two very distinct animation styles, I'm sure RX-7 will recognise one of them. Even if it isn't the Last Unicorn, watch it anyway, it's a great movie! Any, it doesn't really matter when DBZ was shown in the US, the exchange between Goku and Ginyu wasn't shown the US until around '99/2000 or so when Funimation went back to doing the VHS tapes. I don't recall where DB might've syndicated... ... but in the late 80s/early 90s, DB was syndicated on a few stations, dubbed by Harmony Gold... would've probably been 89-91, if memory serves. (DBCollection has a few sound clips. I'd say they were from Ed Gorgon's old site, but on second thought I don't think he had as many clips as this site has..) |

From what I can find, it was only 13 episodes of Dragonball that was syndicated in the US before deemed "a failure" and pulled from the airwaves. Then about a year later, they brought on Dragonball Z.
*shrug* I just can't find any documentation about either being on before 1995. |

a TV station might've paid for the rights to broadcast DBZ, either subtitled or raw (sorta like KIKU-TV in Hawaii).. and given seattle's reasonably-sized asian community, it's possible it could've happened. but aside from HG's DB dub I don't recall any other companies holding the rights for the series... Hm... oh yeah, International Channel also aired DBZ and GT at one episode per week.. together that would've been around 6 years to fully air the series. If they also aired DB, that would've been another 3 or so.. they finished in 2002 IIRC, so theoretically they might've started airing it in ~1993. (I-TV began in 1990, so it's entirely possible) |

Just checking up on that first thing on the list about that unicorn. Anime encyclopedia has something about a movie called Unicon, made back in 1981, where a magical baby unicorn tries to help the world, before being sent to a new mysterious place.
Does this sound familiar? Could this be the thing you were talking about? |

I am pretty sure DB was '86 and DBZ was '91.... I am almost positive on DB, and DBZ might be a year off... |
