Selling crack is easy money, so some do choose it as a way to put food on their tables. This is a fact. Do I think these are good people, no. I completely disagree with the concept of selling drugs. I hate drugs. However these people shouldn't be executed. Time in jail is punishment enough. |
I do so like the assertion that poor people who deal drugs are only black. Good game sir.

Nah, the gum law in singapore isn't as strict as you thought. We can go to pharmacy and buy gums legally. It was banned because it was very unsightly as people like to spit their gums on the floor and makes it hard for the cleaners to clean it and there was a incident in the past where this idiot stuck a gum at the door of our train system, causing quite alot of trouble, therefore, gum is banned for some time. And Drug abuse is a really serious crime in singapore. Recently, I was looking for a temp job and found lots of job vacancies untaken here. So selling drugs to support your family isn't a excuse and selling drugs to support your drug habits isn't right too. That foreign guy who spray paint cars, I think he didn't just spray one, he sprayed quite a number of cars. Those are act of vandalism, why commit those kind of crimes? Yes, it's a petty crime, but if you know what you are doing is wrong, then why do it? There is no valid excuse for someone to go vandalising cars that does not belongs to you, and if you know it's wrong, why do it? They just set the law to so that people won't dare to commit those kinda crimes, but govt. wouldn't expect someone to be stupid enough to commit the crimes. And for the Ads, you should see how it's being pasted all over the bus stops and places. When I first saw it 2 weeks back, I thought it was someone who got nothing better to do at home going around to paste those posters. But I think those people who complain are really those very sensitive Singaporeans, this exist everywhere. At least we just complain, instead of sueing Nike. Just like that person in US who sue Macdonald just because his/her child grew fat from eating it everyday, it's just ridiculous. Oh yeah, there are many places in Singapore that I know of which allows people to graffti freely on the wall. And so far I know, every places have different sets of ridiculous laws, Singapore laws are just strict to ensure that people feel safe living in our country. And Singapore crime rate has always been quite low compared to many countries. Singapore is termed as one of the safer countries to live in. Most people are quite okay with the law in Singapore, save for some narrow minded people who cannot seem to see the brighter and better view to things.

That wasn't my asertion, ok. That was just a scenario, I put out there. For one I know a couple of people who are in that same situation, and unfortunately are now in jail, or spent several years in jail. They used that money to help raise their kids. Other than selling drugs, which I agree is horrible and deserves prison sentences, they are decent people. Get this, it is harder to get a decent paying job when you are black and in the inner city, than when you are white and in the inner city in the US. That was my point about him being black. But if alot of this is just going to be people taking pot-shots at me, please continue to do so because you can now do it without me reading it. I don't feel like being in the middle of the Republican national convention anymore. Later.

My 2 cents: I'm not sure if i agree with the execution of drug traffickers, mainly because one must present concrete evidence (via wiretap, survielance photos, etc.),and any corrupt police officer can find ways of implanting evidence on a certain "suspect" and some individuals who lack a decent education and/or life skills may do virtually anything to survive.even if it meant dealing drugs. (however i do agree that those with children in the inner cities have no "ligit" reason to sell drugs, when if that's the case, they shouldn't have had kids to begin with.) And it's not a black and white issue, it's about class and responsibility. (I had a friend who was your arctypical attractive female y'know; blond hair blue eyes etc.
yet when i found out she was dealing to help pay for her tuition and "expenses", i scolded her and of course it led us parting ways soon after about a week or two, she was jumped by rival dealers and thus ended up in the hopsital with broken ribs, lacerations and a black eye. now IMHO she got off lucky. )
Drug dealing has caused needless deaths througout history, wheter it's the abuser who robs and kills to get his fix, the suburban mother who dies of an overdose or innocent bystanders within inner city communities who are caught in a driveby shootout over rival dealers. I can't say if executing dealers would be a deterent, but maybe it will change the minds of some who would sell that poison.
other than that Singapore is pretty strict, hey who can forget the caning of that american kid who sprayed graffiti several years back?what's next mandatory life sentences for those caught downloading Anime? lmao that would incur to the arrest of 70% posters on this board.
