A book about cooking. Interesting idea, especially since I like movies like "God of Cookery" (a parody of God of Gambler)
What do other people think of this book? How well does it portray cooking and is it as funny and entertaining? I have yet to pick it up, but will soon. |

I have Iron Wok Jan volumes 1-9 and I plan to buy the 10th when it comes out next month.
So far the series is all about different cooking competions and how the group at the Gobancho reastraunt deals with them. There is a lot of tension between Kiriko(the reastraunt owners granddaughter) and Jan(sworn to defeat the gobancho's owner). The reason that this manga is interesting and fun to read is they not only have a solid story but also because all the fun food facts are accurate. With new characters, battles and recipies in nearly all the volumes it keeps the reader wanting more. Also if you like cooking a lot you will get some simple but delicious recipies in some of the books. I highly recommend this manga to anyone who likes to cook. |

Oh man, Iron Wok Jan is a fantastic series. It reads like a kung-fu comic, but one in which all the weapons are replaced with cooking utensils. I also love how the manga-ka weaves cooking tips, culinary history and even recipes into his tale.

Surely, my avatar can't have anything to do with Iron Wok Jan, can it?
It's an entertaining series from what I've read, and most of the cooking techniques and recipes are fairly authentic. My only real beef with it is that the females get unnecessarily large breasts out of the deal, but that hasn't hindered the story as of yet. |

It's fantastic, although everything I've wanted to say has already been said.
Not only is it exciting, it's also emotional at some times. However, it seems to me that Jan always comes out on top... |

Wow this is an old topic, and now I already own 1-10.
Yea all manga, the hero usually come out on top. There there are part which lead to failed. spoiler[For example, when Jan tried to cook for a larget table, he multiply everything by 10 and the food turn out really bad.] Somehow, that part show his vulanbility, that he can fail if he doesn't learn. Also it's interesting that Jan is arrogant and he doesn't get along with Kiriko. If he did and he was humble, than the story would be boring. It's typical fighting shonen title, except they fight by cooking and taste rather than violence and blood. Odd but interesting nevertheless. |

Well if Jan was like that it wouldn't be any different than that Sushi Chef manga that still available in Japan. (Can't remember it title). In that cooking manga, the protagonist is so perfect. Humble and devoted to a fault. It almost gives the reader a cavity. The appeal of Jan is that he's just over the top and plain nuts. Not to mention his competition is plain nuts as well. |

Especially that part that shows his vulnerability against the "ghost" of his grandfather---spoiler[when he kinda loses in the big tournament and ends up banging his head bloody in the restroom] I thought that part was extremely emotional. |
