Can anybody name me a few good samurai or ninja animes? I prefer ones that are just a bit more on the serious or dramatic side but any samurai/ninja animes you guys name will be greatly appreaciated. Just don't mention Kenshin as i already have the whole series.

I haven't watched these yet but you may want to check out Samurai Champloo (It's by the same director that did Cowboy Bebop but apparently it has a lot of Trigun's staff working on it), the Ninja Scroll feature and TV series, and Ninja Ressurection.

Another one, which I've only seen the first four episodes of, is Peacemaker Kurogane. A lot of people compared this to Kenshin, but so far I think I like it more. Unlike Kenshin, they focus on the Shinsengumi, which I found very interesting. They do tend to throw in humor, but there's some seriousness in it too. You should definitely check it out.

Interesting, I never knew that this series involded the Shinsengumi. I will have to look at this, does this series have any relation to Kenshin with any characters in any way im dying to know.

Yeah, just avoid Ninja Ressurection, it's not worth wasting your time over.

Check out Samurai 7 when it gets released (hopefully) next year.

Of course, there's always Naruto and Ninja Cadets (an OAV).

Well other than Saitou's role in the Shinsengumi, and maybe Okita's as well, then my guess is no. Aside from the members of the Shinsengumi that actually did exist in history, I believe they would probably be the only ones you'd care about, unless you know of any other Japanese historical references that may be shared throughout each title.

And to add suggestions, I hear Otogizoushi is pretty good too (now licensed by Media Blasters and due for a March release, by the way).

Samurai Deeper KYO is OK from the first volume I've seen, but meh, unless there's anything better past episode 5, I'd say it has the potential to be slightly above mediocre at best.

well if you're one of those that enjoyed ninja scroll, maybe try out Blood Reign Curse of the Undead....it's pretty much like Ninja scroll, but the graphic of ninja scroll is better Smile

Ninja Cadets is a lot like Naruto. You've got a group of kids going off on a ninja exam when they're attacked by the bad guys. It shares a lot elements with Naruto, but the NC anime predates the Naruto manga by 4 years. It's under rated and could have stood a sequal, but I liked it.

To be honest, while I like NC, I think you'd be better off renting it, buying it used, or getting it on sale. Media Blasters is asking $25 for the DVD, but it's only 60 minutes with no features to speak of, they could do better, especially for a 1996 title.
