If you click the What link at the top of the page, it lists a number of anime/shows which I assume are the ones that will be shown:
Crayon Shin-Chan, Cutey Honey Live Action Movie, Full Metal Alchemist, Hello Kitty, Kakurenbo, Naruto, NIN NIN Ninja Star Hattori, Otogi Zoushi, Paranoia Agent, Samurai 7, Samurai Champloo, and Jungle wa Itsumo HaRe Nochi Guu Interestingly, included among these is Naruto - might that mean there will be a licensing announcement at the festival? |

I think it is highly likely that there will be a licensing announcement there about Naruto there considering the fact that they claim that Naruto is now on its way to the US. I wonder if its coming to Cartoon Network.

It looks like this festival will be very cool. I was a volunteer when NYT first started and they always do a top notch job.

I looked at the site and this event looks to be completely Japanese created and ran. They give no credit to any American companies (Bandai, Funimation, Geneon etc.) and the contact people are Japanese, plus they are sponsored by Nippon Airlines.
All the anime they are showing is being done so by the Japanese studios directly so don't expect any license announcements. I would like to go because the guest will all the heads from all the major anime companies. I hope what they show is at least subtitled, heck everything may still be in raw Japanese. k |

Isn't the TriBeCa Performing Arts Center also hosting/sponsoring the event? Edit: I worry about the convention a bit. I have on good authority a source that said in some cases events weren't set up properly, or not even run at all. I hope a better job is done this year. |

With all due respect, the "Tribeca Performing Arts Center" is just a pretty name for the auditorium at the Borough of Manhattan Community College x_X |

These folks have done a nice job with all of the events I've been to (which is a lot since I live in NYC and work press). Don't knock it before they're given a chance to succeed.

I understand, but my source worked the convention 2 years ago (or was it last year?) and asked his name taken off the list of organizers because he felt "I didn't want to be associated with a train wreck". Now that was 2 years ago, so I would hope they'd gotten much better. |

Wish I lived in NY to see this. I heard that they were incredibly close to getting to show the Naruto movie, but the Japanese company said no. At least it'll be Naruto in America.

I was there when he made that comment. I think his expectation was too high. We were just starting out and we were in the middle of the attacks (9-11). Many of the guests, such as Leiji Matsumoto, were supposed to come. His management people thought it would not be wise not to come. I remember the folks at Production IG created a slate that supported the people in NYC right before the WXIII trailer.
So give this festival some slack. The festival organizers did their best under the circumstances. They will continue being the best con in NYC. Ranmah |
