Didn't they learn from that awful Yu-gi-oh movie? My 10-year-old twin nephews are Yu-gi-oh fanatics and even they hated the movie. They collect anything remotely related to the anime but told me not to even consider getting them the movie for Christmas.

A sequel that doesnt involve Yugi, dont know how 4kids will handle the orginal series of Yu-Gi-Oh! on the air along side this.

Yes it is a sequel and the original ended it's japanese run a few weeks ago. The manga also ended and would anyone like to bet that 4kids will aquire the authers next work?
It's sometimes amazing how often TV Tokyo commissions spin offs that have nothing to do with the (usualy) better original.

meh i don't like the look of gx. It's not goot for the fans who actually watched it for the characters and yokeymabobbers.
I heard it's just as cheesy as a dub episode of yu-gi-oh and the theme song is pretty awful too. polos.

Yu-Gi-Oh: DM GX (yes that's the full title) means Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Monsters Generation Next sense Yugi is passing the torch to this kid in GX.

So I take it GX is to Yu Gi Oh what GT is to DB: a cheap cash-in.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch, my friend. Yu-Gi-Oh is still going strong in Japan.
The GX series is set in an alternate universe. I don't believe it is a sequel.

I guess Kazuki Takahashi's gonna try to make Yu-gi-oh a Gundam-like franchise.

Didn't 4Kids not even license the first season of Yu-Gi-Oh because it didn't involve the game in anyway in any of the episodes? I understood that 4Kids started off with the 2nd season and aired on TV and released that on DVD.

This reply is based on what I read in Anime Insider issue #11:
The first season of Yu-Gi-Oh, which was 27 episodes long, was produced by Toei Animation and aired in Japan in 1998. These episodes followed the manga that is running in Shonen Jump and featured Yugi proving his worth in a series of random games, with the card game not featured. But the lack of the card game wasn't the only reason why the first season didn't get licensed; it was Yugi's brutal acts of terrorism thru the use of punishing Shadow Realm illusions that kept the series from crossing the Pacific. Hard to imagine Yugi as a terrorist, huh?
If you get a chance, read the article in Anime Insider #11 by Lianne Sentar. It provides an episode guide to the first season.
