Huh, for some reason I thought this was already finished since the anime (which was following the manga, not the original novels) ended in Decemeber, I'm curious now to see if the ending is any different.

I always laugh at how articles about Shiki mention that it "stars Gackt" when in reality Gackt only has like 15-20 lines in the entire show or thereabout.

The Anime and manga have the same ending.

The manga expands on some characters that the Anime ignored, and there are some slight differences, but the end result is the same in both.

Now... If an U.S. company would license the manga as well. That would be nice.

It's a Jump Square title, so I imagine VIZ has it on their consideration list. They've published his two other series [haven't read HE, but loved the 4volume WaqWaq], and Hoshin Engi's last volume ships next week, so I imagine it's possible it'll show up on their slate at some point. I suppose it's mostly a "wait and see" thing, depending on what other series might take priority.

That's what I figured, I've read some of the earlier chapters and noticed that the anime was pretty faithful, the manga just had more time for detail. I do kinda wish this one got licensed since I like the extra detail in the story but the art style bugs me at times (you think the character designs in the anime look strange? HAH).

The art style is insane. It's so ugly that I can't even hate it for being ugly.

The crazy art does enhance some of the scary scenes though. The character designs are frightening by themselves, but with demonic eyes and fangs they're enough to rob you of your dreams.

Honestly, with the vampires and the bishounen, I'm surprised its not already on shelves. It seems like a no brainer. Though its quite a bit heavier, and probably directed towards an audience slightly older than the twilight crowd, so that could be holding it back.

I really like the artwork in Shiki >.> I mean, its definately not bad artwork, its really distinct and although the cast is extremely large, all the characters are very recognizable (even if you discount the ridiculous hair on some of them). The large bags under people's eyes and almost insect like appearance of some of the vampires also gives a really nice atmosphere to the manga.

Woow.. I had never seen someone not like FujiRyu's style.. I mean its so--- mmm.. How to describe it? Different!
Like Good different, at least in my opinion.

Hopefully Viz picks this up, it has lots of good points.
-Vampired themed (VIZ could market it up like that)
-Horror (Not many horror mangas)
-Medium sized manga (Its not that long, so yeah)

I concur. I love to check this series out. I'm in the mood for a new good horror series to read.
