Yes, because that's what's wrong with politicians. They don't read enough manga. Rolling Eyes

Oh wow, brazenly arrogant enough? Rolling Eyes

I think what Hawkwing meant was that it would be cool to have politicians that act like people and show an interest in cultural and societal activities and forms of recreation and culture, not "lulz weeaboo comment lulz." Grow up.

Well, Taro Aso is from and represents Fukoka Prefecture in the Diet, so I'm not sure that he could do that, unless Japan is like New Jersey (or France).

This seems, appropriately to have gotten the opposite response to the outrage over Ishihara's bloviation and as then, I would encourage that a wider view than his stance on some popular media that you happen to have an affection for. If naught else, consider some of the things that he's said on other subjects. I don't necessarily think that you'll interpret that as damning, only as mitigating and illustrative, although, "We are not going to let someone from the buraku become the prime minister, are we?" is at least very distasteful.

Well unfortunately it was his party, the LDP that was most instrumental in pushing Bill 156 through and was the same party, with his backing if I recall, that had banned a huge swathe of content for a short while (basically until they were losing the elections)

And coinciding with ANN's Segolene reference, Sarkozy is now expressing similar sentiments with regards to the internet. This is why governments and politicians everywhere need to stay out of cultural and societal activities, even with the best of intentions which can often make things worse.
