So what manga were you really interested in but have doubt of it because it's not your type of manga. For me, I'm really contemplating if I should get Mythology of the Heavens 1: God of Warm, Diablolo, and Darkside Blue because I don't know much about it yet. I remember I pick up hot gimmick because so many people said it was good (even though it's a shoujo manga) so I gave it a try and love it.
So have you seen or heard about manga but have doubt about picking it up?

Lone wolf and cub always looks good but not good enough to buy. I fear the story will drag and feel over long.

All of the manga I own has an anime conunterpart besides one series, Kazan. Usually before I buy manga, I usually look through it and read a few chapters. But I bought Kazan over the internet at DollarManga so I couldn't really read it before I bought it. But in the end, I think I'm glad I took the risk.

The story does not drag, it paced perfectly. For the first 8 or so volumes we are introduced to the character and the conflict is established, then the main story starts. Its really a classic work.
But this is really a rather broad topic. I have tons of series that look somewhat interesting but I ultimately don't buy them. Do you want this to be a recommendation thread?

The Blood: The Last Vampire manga. I stared at it for so long at Borders. I loved the "movie", but I am not sure about the manga. I want it but, it might not be good...and I have limited cash right now.

The manga is nothing like the movie. It's really... graphic and mature, and touches on homosexuality. *note here the artist is known for his hentai manga* However, I love the art in it. I wouldn't suggest it though if you're looking for a good story.

Wasn't suppose to be a recommendation thread. Just about manga that other people got you really excited about, or just manga you really wanna get but have doubt about it for some reason.

Hey it's hard to think of new topic to keep the manga forum alive, so everyone start making post or whatever. Seem like I'm the only one trying now a days.

Escaflowne for me. I've seen the anime, but the art of the manga isn't all that good lookin', plus, (from the bit I read) it seems like the story is very different in the beginning.

Every time I hit the comic shop and browse the shelves, I agonize over which titles to try out. There is so much manga on the shelves now and even though I like to think I keep tabs on what is hot and/or popular (because I review comics), it is still difficult for me to pick something new. I don't mind reading bad comics because they make for good reviews some time, but as a consumer, I hate reading stories that are bland-- basically standard, forgettable stories.

Also, as a consumer (and reviewer) it is difficult sometimes to seperate the PR hype from the actual, sincere praise for a book. Example--- Peacemaker Kurogane. I'd heard fantastic things about this series from both the publisher and some manga related sites. I then picked up the first volume and was very, very disappointed. Some research I did after the fact revealled that a lot of the hype is about the anime and not necessarily the manga.

On the flip-side, I've taken chances on books like No. 5, Planetes and Gyo that have received basically no coverage from either the publisher or manga related Web sites and I was thoroughly impressed.

I have wanted to read Ai Yori Aoshi for awhile, but the picture on the front cover of the first volume has discouraged me... the story is supposed to cute, but... i don't know.

I have also wanted to pick up Please save my earth, but i haven't heard alot about it so i'm not sure if it will be good.

I bought it today, it was way different than the movie IMO.

There are two that I've been looking at for awhile (they're both not released yet) and I haven't really heard much about these titles. Rg Veda, and Mouryou Kiden: Legend of the Nymph.

This seems like the thread that asked "How do you go about choosing your manga?"

Everyone has hesitations about buying their manga and there's no way to really avoid this becoming a "recommendation" thread. Because if one person says, "Yeah, I didn't know if it'd be worth it to pick up [x] manga..." another person who's read it will come and say, "Oh! You should check it out! It's totally worth the investment..."

I've said it before. The manga forum will not "die" if you don't post a new topic in it every day. Believe it or not, the manga forum survived just fine before you took it upon yourself to be its "savior." In fact if you start posting random topics every day...it may actually start having an adverse effect.

Yeam PMK didn't live up to what everyone said about it (I wasn't expecting too much because the anime is pretty mediocre as well). Definitally not one of the better samurai tales being published in english.
I've always wanted to start X, but its a bit long now, and I've heard some very mixed opinions about it, so I don't think I'll ever pick it up.

Please Save my Earth...I don't know really what to say. I heard and saw a lot of good comments for it, so I just bought the first volumes (this is probably a few months ago), expecting a lot of it, as if it was, how would I say...A must-read for those who likes mangas with a good storyline and characters. That's what I thought...

I got disappointed with it. First of all, it's rather old, so it has that drawing style that some people love, some people hate. The story goes slowly, with a lot of different elements of it, and it's easy to confuse characters at sometimes...I wouldn't recommend it, too much charged with ilogical things...

But that's just my opinion, depending on what you are looking for, maybe you should ask more.

I want to try Suikoden III. I have read the beggining via Tokyopop's website, and it looks quite interesting. Either I read a short review on Animerica. And looks like I would like the plot and the characters, if it is not excessively charged with action.

Problem: Not licensed here. Anime hyper
