One of the benefits of being a subscriber is having access to fast.animenewsnetwork.com, which I believe was to give faster access to ANN.
For the past few weeks, I've noticed ANN has been coming to a crawl as it pulls data from cdn1 and cdn3 servers. I know there are updates being applied to the site, but I'm curious to know if these servers are part of the new change, or just for there as a temporary solution. In perusing other posts in this thread, it seems these issues are not uncommon. I've encountered this delay using Chrome (latest version), Firefox 3.16, Firefox 4 (RC), Firefox 4, and IE8 & 9. I should also note the delay isn't constant. It seems to be hit or miss throughout the day. There are no adverse performance issues to any of the browsers, but it's rather uncomfortable to wait for the transfer to complete as the page just hangs. Please note I'm not expecting any changes, just asking a question regarding the servers. Thanks for reading. |

Today, the fault seems to be on cdn2. Musical servers?

I've been noticing a lot of encyclopedia pages today where the image for the page fails to load. It seems like the images that are failing to load are all on cdn2. So you aren't the only person who has been having problems with the image servers recently.

They are live servers that are meant to accelerate ANN for all visitors.
Essentially "Fast" hosts and renders the webpages, while cdn1/2/3 host the images. There was a problem with the CDN last week, but I believe it has been resolved. Fast should still be the fastest of the ANN servers, and CDN1/2/3 should make it slightly faster than it was before. |

The issue has come back, it seems, as CDN1 and 2 are misbehaving. It wouldn't be such a big deal if all the images weren't on the CDN servers, such as avatars, link buttons, and the small row of icons at the bottom of each post. I should have been more specific to say the delays are really bothersome on the forum, as clicking the "Post Reply" button can leave a page "hanging" while the status bar reads "Oh you, CDN2, please bestow upon me the images I request. What? You're in the shower? Come on! People are waiting!" Or something like that. I'll try to be more patient. It's not like they hang for minutes, but today's been really nasty, with one page taking up to nearly 30 seconds to completely render. I try to refrain from using the refresh button, as this just compounds the request issue, so I wait it out. Would there be any objections to refreshing at a delay or would it be better to report back? |

Yes, actually. This last time took a staggering 1.24 minutes to fully load. I was reading Techdirt waiting for it to load.
EDIT: I'm at home now and CDN2 is still acting up. Times of loading doesn't change, despite the change in bandwidth speed (at work, I've 3x my home's 7Mbs). Peanuts. EDIT #2: Here are some screenshots of what I'm experiencing of late: pic 1 pic 2 pic 3 Not sure if they'll help, but scroll to the bottom of the image and you'll see the status bar denote the hanged server. Pic 3 is what happens when the hanging fails to resolve. Using: Firefox 4 baby |

Whatever you did seemed to put those servers in line, as I've yet to hit a single delay at all, which is usually the first thing I'm greeted with in the morning. The speed... is... shockingly impressive. Have to admit: I've never seen it this fast... ever, and that's on a network @ 100Mbs! Thank you for the quick resolution. + |
