Hmm, more Higurashi is always welcome, but I'm not that excited - at least not till I know what it's about. I hope it's a sequel.

For some reason, when I first saw the title, I immediately thought, "Whoa Funimation finally licensed Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai"
Yeah, like that's ever going to receive a dubbed US release now.
(And speaking of the series.... for whatever reason, I just stopped watching Kai when there was literally a small handful of episodes left, halfway through the very final arc. If I get back to it, I feel like I'll have to go through the whole series again, and I don't really want to...)

But "Kira" in this title means "glitter."

10 years? According to Wikipedia, Onikakushi was released in 2002. Or do they count Hinamizawa Bus Stop?

I have absolutely no clue of where they want to go with this, but there should be little harm in giving them the benefit of the doubt for now.
Honestly though, the main story is essentially over so I would have to assume this is far more likely to be a spin-off rather than anything else.

For me anything Higurashi related is welcome. Love the series so much, so I am excited!!
Say, I wonder when the rest of the series will get released. At this point I dont care if we get a dubbed version or not but I would like something. Also be interested to see if FUNimation would get it, or if Sentai would get it like they did Hell Girl.
Everyday that goes by that the rest of the Higurashi Series has not been licensed, is a day I die a little inside.
EDIT: Also with FUNImation's love of getting Live Action Movies, I am surprised they have not gotten the Live Action Higurashi yet. That is one I would actually love to purchase.

I'm interested in more Higurashi, though I'd like to know more. Still, since this will be anime, I doubt we'll see it licensed at this point. I'm resigned to that fate.
Fortunately, the manga version has been extremely good. A lot of missing details from the visual novels are there that weren't in the anime that really help to explain things and the visuals are considerably better. It can vary from arc to arc a little since there are different artists but the Abducted by Demons arc and Beyond Midnight look fantastic IMO. (I think BM is a manga only arc too, yet it's surprisingly good with a nice twist.)
I generally subscribe to the "more is better" school of thought with entertainment franchises though so more Higurashi seems positive to me on general principle.

Wow, is Higurashi already that old? It seems like it was just a few months ago that I read the first manga volume, it's hard to believe it's already been around for a decade. I didn't even realize there were live-action movies out.

I hate to be the pessimist and have to ask what they're intending to do with it. I hope they do not have any illusions about weaving another intricate mystery, it can't possibly stand up to the original since we're already much too used to the setting and gonna watch it with certain expectations.
I will welcome an extra slice of life story filled with humor anytime.
