I always dislike when they put a bunch of news together. It makes it hard to discuss one thing.
Regarding Gantz:
Other than targeting Tae, it looks like they're straying from the manga this time around. And yet strangely, it looks pretty good. Better than the first one at least.

Shinkai's new movie looks like some awesome Miyazaki-tastic stuff. I'm kind of excited, though Place Promised wasn't too terrific, so I'm a little hesitant. 5cm/sec, however, is sheer perfection.

I must admit to scepticism.
It is through his films being dissimilar to those of Miyazaki that they have endeared to me so. Shinkai may win the hearts of many to capture an adventurous spirit through a visually diverse fantasy such as this, though without the emphatic sentimentalism that brought his previous works such acclaim whilst (admittedly) dividing his audiences, my disappointment would be likely.
This is not to say this film is unlikely to showcase this director's great capacity to convey romantic affections through screenplay, but instead that new (and in my book less engaging) subject matter may occupy more of the film's running time than is warranted.

You don't need to worry about that.
Like every Miyazaki movie has an environmental message in it, every Shinkai movie has "emphatic sentimentalism" as you put it. this one will be no different, just longer and with a better budget.

So, I'm not the only one who has Miyazaki vibes from the trailer. Certain scenes remind of me of Princess Monoke, and the scenery is beautiful. To be honest, I am a bit skeptical about watching this film now for some reason. I don't really like the character designs either. I'll probably end up watching the movie to see how it goes, and see if it can beat my enjoyment of 5 Centimeters Per Second.

Uh, not every Miyazaki movie has that message, ya know.
Oh, yeah, and like somebody already said, this Gantz looks considerably better than the first one. I didn't get to see the 1st in theatres, unfortunately, but maybe it'll make DVD or something, and then I can go see this one.

Yep, looking even more forward to the new Shinkai movie (assuming someone will license it soon), the Hoshi Mamoru Inu looks rather sweet, while Kimi to Boku looks as adorable as all heck. Oh yeah, and Gantz seems like it'll be entertaining.
