It is mystery to me why exactly all of YGOs, Doraemons, and similar internationally huge animé series that go through like half thousand of episodes always get ratings from "Weak" to "So-So" and "Decent" (at best) on ANN.

I never watched any of these shows, so I would like to ask: are these really that bad? How much these shows worse than the likes of Naruto and One Peace, which get "Very good" rating on ANN?

And if so, how come these gets produced in such scale and keep being watched worldwide for generations of children?

What is the secret there?

Thing is, some people cannot take them for what they are, an advertisement. Yugioh is probably one of the strongest advertising anime, having a strong story while showing off the product. Not even Pokemon can compete in this respect.

I think it is great the Make a Wish foundation is doing this with 4kids, it shows character.

The thing is, most Japanese animation is an advertisement, and people hate on the more blatant ones simply for being more upfront about it. Square Enix more or less said Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood was made so that they can sell more manga. When Miyazaki looked for funding for Naussica, he was laughed at because there was nothing to advertise with it, there was no manga series, there was nothing. So Miyazaki created a manga series. I

I don't know about the few thousand more recent episodes, but the early Doraemon series is great.

And, by the way, "Cardcaptor Sakura" turns out to be even more blatant advertisement project than YGO, since it contains card-game advertisement even in its name.

So, is "Cardcaptor Sakura" even worse than YGO?
