This series surprised me on how enjoyable and fun it is and how pretty consistently it does that. I'd say this is a squidily good "comfort food" series I won't mind rewatching a few random episodes on Crunchyroll.

This and Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-Chan are probably the ONLY moe-themed shows I've actually enjoyed so far. I mean if they're going to do more moe-centric shows, they should at least model themselves after this.
I loved how stupid the MIT Researchers were when they were trying to do experiments on Squid Girl. Poor girl. I guess you can say, what made this show likable was how Squid Girl was always indifferent to her surroundings. I wish I had a Chibi Squid Girl right now. I nearly stopped watching this in fear of it being another crappy attempt at being anime pseudoactivisim (like the crapfests Arjuna and Tokyo Mew Mew were).
Thank god Squid Girl didn't dwell on its "message" and became something solid and even, dare I say, fun. |

Squid Girl was so cute. It almost reminded me more of Ramen Fighter Miki than Sgt Frog...

Like the reviewer, I immediately saw reflections of Sgt. Frog and Yotsuba in here. This is a really enjoyable series for anyone who loves, or even remotely likes, either series! Since both of those are favorites of mine (Still waiting for Funi to license later seasons of Frog...), this series has become one of my recent favorites, and is one I will definitely buy if and when the DVDs come out here. I've only said that about one other series, and that's Working!! This is one of those "comfort food" anime for when you're having a bad day and need an emotional boost (except the Chibi Squid girl episode:'(...)

I've got to agree: this was a pleasant surprise of a series.
A quick tip: an episode isn't over just because the end credits start rolling--watch at least to the Next Episode announcement. Often there is an extra bit of episode-related business to put cross on the "T" in the end. It was totally unnecessary...and was an added bit of animators' love that I adored. |

The only thing I've seen of this series was the chibi segment, but seeing as how that just about managed to bring me to tears, I won't doubt its overall quality. If the rest is as entertaining as that segment was poignant, maybe I'll have to look it up.

Yeah there were some of the occasional moments that didn't really fill into the series (yeah the doll episode was probably the weakest in the series.)
But for me everything else and yes especially the chibi-squid segment really hit home, and everything in between was just pure aww-is-the-episode-over moments that most series recently fail to hit in a 24-50-longrunning series that this show in particular seems to effortlessly hit in the short run it had. Time well spent watching this show. I'm so glad I gave such a 'left field' idea a chance to win me over and win me it did. |

Good review, and you're right; the Mini Ika dream skit will always be the first thing I remember when I think of this show. Really enjoyed the whole thing, but that part was probably my favorite. A great dose of grins; there was never a time where I walked away from a sitting of Ika Musume without a smile on my face.
And is it me or did the Sanae gag never get old? |

I really enjoyed Squid Girl for what it is-a funny "slice of life-invader style" series-I'd have no problem with more of it at all.

I realize I'm jumping a little late into this bandwagon so I apologize in advance.
Anybody else think that there is potential for an "Octopus Girl" series like the show hints at? Perhaps a bit less slapstick and a bit more drama. It certainly would be nice to know her story. |
