Recently I picked up a short Viz manga released under what was clearly an early imprint that I had never heard of. The title is Hotel Harbour View, released in 1990 under the "spectrum" imprint. It's the size of a typical American GN and flipped (though it has a cool scratchy plastic jacket that my cats love!), and it's fairly graphic seinen.

Now in 1990 I was still running home from school to watch "Chip'n'Dale Rescue Rangers" and Archie and Garfield were the extent of my comic reading, so it isn't that surprising that I wouldn't have known about this at the time. But I AM surprised that I haven't been able to find anything about it now. So does anyone know anything about the mysterious Spectrum imprint? The jacket claims that this is their second release, so what was the first? How many were there? It's a neat book, and my Crazy Inner Bibliophile is screaming for knowledge.

Your answer lies in this thread. There were 2 other Viz Spectrum titles, Shion and Saber Tiger.

Thanks, Mylene! I didn't even think to look there.

Shion - Blade of the Minstrel and Saber Tiger are both worth picking up (especially given that they could still be found quite cheaply last time I looked).

Shion has some absolutely gorgeous artwork but the text reads like the lyrics to a particularly bad 1970s Tolkien-inspired prog rock concept album.
Saber Tiger is sci-fi by the same artist as the 2001 Nights trilogy and it's a pretty good read (though it isn't nearly as ambitious or compelling as the 2001 Nights books so I'd recommend tracking those down first if you don't already have them).
