I guess Tokyo didn't learn from the Comics Code Authority situation in American comics.
But seriously. Porn's okay, but heaven forbid if someone draws it, cause that's much, much more dangerous. Way to give one of your biggest industries a death sentence. That International Anime Fair is going to be a ghost town. Good Luck with that, Tokyo. Call me when you're cool again.[/i] |

My biggest question is with Comiket- will that still happen next year? Will it have to move? Or will they be able to get by with just checking ages at the doors?

It's too early to tell and the law is too vague to know for sure.
I expect we will see a SIGNIFICANT reduction in the number of late-night shows with perverted moments, specifically with underage characters. I expect OAVs (marked as 18+, even if they're just a little edgy) to fill some of that gap. I also think manga editors will encourage new manga starting up that it involve slightly older characters if there's any possibility anything sexual will happen. (i.e. college is the new high school.) I also suspect people will start getting carded in buying porn in Akihabara, much like they do in the US. But who knows. This law is SO vague that a lot of what happens now will be in how the publishers react to it, and the politics that ensue. (shrug) Unfortunately I think we're stuck with this law for the time being. Given the increasingly unsavory reputation of otaku stuff in Japan, I actually expect this law to be very popular with non-fans, which are, after all, the vast majority of people over there. I also expect the publishers to really push whatever limits are declared -- keep in mind, this is the country that invented tentacle porn because they couldn't show two bodies together. Is this permanent or not? There's something that can be done about this... right? I mean an appeal or.. something.. there's still hope right..?
What's next, do we wait for the Governor's term to run out and then someone to vote it out or... what's gonna happen? They can't just ignore the extreme unsatisfaction of the public forever can they? Can they..? I really don't know. |

Isn't this bill that they issued contradictionary? I mean, they going to make the media industries commit (financial) suicide.
I don't see this bill lasting for very long. Its sounds quite absurd. |

If they actually could check anyone  they would get trampled. I would almost imagine they would have restricted areas since not ALL of comiket is H content

Cant belive this.. We'll hopefully manga publishers will stick to there guns like they say they are and move shop. If not this bill going to have a big a effect on most mangas including some big ones fairy tail, hsdk, Air gear exct..
Though im still wondering if they will have to move since this is only tokyo they cant top them from producing, sailing/brodcasting elsewhere right? |

You know, looking at it this way it doesn't seem so bad. When it comes to adult content I prefer OVAs anyway, and I don't think much is lost if we have a couple less fan service shows on late at night. Also, now that I'm in college I sure wouldn't mind seeing characters in my age group become more common- they're more relatable in that setting, even if they still act like high school kids. |
