The internationally beloved Anne of Green Gables series, written by Lucy Maud Montgomery and translated by Hanako Muraoka (Shinchosha Bunko), is being adapted into an anime. The Anne Shirley animated series is planned to begin airing on NHK E-Tele starting in April 2025. The series logo and a number of images have been released.
The original Anne of Green Gables series is set in Avonlea on Canada's beautiful Prince Edward Island. When the orphan Anne is adopted by Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, her incredible imagination and beautiful heart, cultivated through eleven years of hardship, change the hearts of those around her. This is a story filed with love which depicts the small joys in life through people's emotions and the beauty of nature. Ever since the series was translated into Japanese in 1952, it has been loved as an evergreen masterpiece. This timeless tale will now return as the animated Anne Shirley series to tell its coming-of-age story in a new way.
The animation production will be handled by Answerstudio who have worked on titles such as Suzume and Your Name and are known for the high quality of their work. With Prince Edward Island, said to be the most beautiful place in the world, as their backdrop, they will use their high production quality to capture the charms of Anne and Diana, full of life and living together with the beauty of nature.
