MNet to Air U.S. Premiere of 'Culture Japan' With Japanese Pop Culture / Anime Authority Danny Choo on Tuesday, July 5
Popular Asian Series to Feature Exploits and Insights from Curator of All Things Japan
LOS ANGELES, CA – June 20, 2011 – Hit Japanese TV show Culture Japan - starring Japanese pop culture guru, Danny Choo - is making its way across the Pacific Ocean for the first time to make its U.S. premiere on Mnet (www.mnet.com). Mnet, the leading 24/7 English-language network in the U.S. devoted to Asian pop culture, will air a new episode every Tuesday night, beginning on July 5 at 9:30pm ET/PT. Each week host Danny Choo will explore all the things that make Japanese pop culture tick.
“This show is a must see for everyone, from Otaku who love anime, manga and cosplay to viewers who want to know more about the more traditional side of Japan,” said Julie Choi, Senior Vice President of Programming and Development at Mnet. “As anyone who has visited his website knows, Danny is a tireless ambassador for Japanese pop culture, the traditional Japan and everything in-between.”
In every Culture Japan episode, Danny shines a spotlight on the different aspects of Japan that make the country so special. The camera follows him around the streets of Japan as he shares cool places to visit, shows what goes on behind the scenes at anime production studios and offers a slice of life in Japan which U.S. viewers don't get to see often.
In one episode, Danny goes behind the closed doors of a Japanese high school to see how real life compares to that found in the pages of manga. Danny is the viewer's passport to understanding all the things about Japan that have made uninitiated Americans scratch their heads in confusion.
“Culture Japan enables me to share the wonderful details of Japanese pop culture and the more traditional side of Japan with folks around the world,” said Danny. “The show
is not just for fans of all things Japanese but also for absolutely anybody who has an interest in travel, as Japan is certainly a wonderful place to visit. For now, folks can start their journey from their sofa each evening at Mnet.”
Originally from the UK, Danny (http://dannychoo.com/about) has been working in the Japanese Internet since 1999. In his career, Danny served as Computer Engineer at Japan Airlines, Website Manager on the management team at Amazon and as CGM Product Manager at Microsoft.
Danny currently lives and works in Japan running a company called “Mirai” where he works with his anime and game clients such as Sony, Sega, Konami, Kadokawa, King Records and many other Japanese companies to help them bridge the gap with the rest of the world. As an authority on Japanese pop culture, he often speaks worldwide at conferences and universities on the subject.
Danny also runs a website of the same name as the TV show Culture Japan at http://culturejapan.jp where he shares photos of pop culture, life in Japan and behind the scenes of Culture Japan filming.
