Whack-A-Nerd for Charity at Anime Festival Orlando

Whack-A-Nerd For Charity At Anime Festival Orlando

Orlando, FL (July 9, 2009) – This year Anime Festival Orlando brings a new and exciting event to their show: Wack-a-Nerd for Charity. Sponsored by Sleeping Samurai, this event features a battle arena where attendees can come and pick out the "Nerd" of their choice and, for a price, battle them with foam weapons for Charity. The participating charity is Child's Play, a game industry charity dedicated to improving the lives of children with toys and games in their network of over 60 hospitals worldwide.

For a $1 donation participants can battle with the available nerd who will be armed with a foam weapon comparable to theirs, or for $5 they can go 30 seconds with an unarmed nerd carrying only a shield to cower behind. The “nerds” featured will be personifications of types of people and characters you typically see at anime conventions.
“This event is intended to be fun and lighthearted,” comments Anime Festival Orlando Event Coordinator Karen Trudeau. “This sounds like a blast,” says Kristin Lindsay, the Project manager for Child's Play, “What a great idea for a fund raiser.”

This event will happen several times during AFO weekend so attendees are encouraged to check the daily schedule for Times and available Nerds.
