Fans Set New World Record at London Mcm Expo
MCM Expo is another record breaker!
Fans set new world record at London MCM Expo
It's-a Mario! Not to mention Solid Snake, Chun-Li, Lara Croft, Master Chief and hundreds of other videogame stars. Yes, Saturday 23 May saw 376 fans converge on the Excel Centre for the London MCM Expo's attempt to break the world record for the number of people dressed as videogame characters. Officials from the Guinness World Records team were on hand to witness history being made as the crowd of dedicated cosplayers smashed the same world record that they set at the last Expo in October.
Gaz Deaves, Guinness World Records Video Games Record Manager says;
“Once again the dedicated cosplayers of the London MCM Expo have demonstrated their commitment to breaking records. This achievement will be considered for inclusion in the next Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition and I'd like to congratulate everyone involved for their fantastic costumes as well as their patience while we counted all 376 of them!”
Hats off to everyone involved, and we hope to see you all at the next show in October!
STARS SHINE AT EXPO!
Of course, the record-breaking cosplayers weren't the only gaming highlights at the Expo – visitors were treated to a number of video game exclusives, including the first UK plays of Eidos' Batman Arkham Asylum, KOEI's Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 and Rising Star Games' Mura Massa, plus the first UK screening of Ju-on, the video game adaptation of Asian horror classic The Grudge. Not to mention many more hands on experiences from the latest games from Namco Bandai, Atari, CAPCOM, Activision and more. Plus the chance to meet a galaxy of film and TV talent, such as Hollywood legend Tony Curtis; The Terminator's Linda Hamilton; The Bionic Woman's Lindsay Wagner, Donnie Darko's James Duval; Red Dwarf's Craig Charles; and the casts of Eureka and Merlin and more.
The luminaries of the comic world were also on hand to chat to fans, with special guests including a rare appearance from famed author Warren Ellis and Eisner Award winner Nick Abazdis.
CROWDS FLOCK TO EXCEL!
With visitors treated to such a line-up of activities, a vast array of anime and sci-fi merchandise and our ever-popular Cosplay Masquerade, it's hardly surprising that attendance at this May's MCM Expo also hit a record high. Defying the credit crunch, over 23,500 people poured through Excel's doors on Saturday alone – confirming the show's status as the UK's flagship event for movies, videogames, comics, sci-fi, manga and anime.
EXPO RETURNS IN OCTOBER!
24-25 October 2009 sees the return of the London MCM Expo at Excel, and this time it will be bigger than ever with the event expanding its way into an extra hall amounting in another 2,000 square meters of movie, comic and media mayhem.
