DEATH OF DOMOMATA focuses on a rehab facility in which junkie girls put on an annual play around Christmas. The story slowly melds with the reality of these girls' situation in the rehabilitation center-making for a unique meta-theatrical experience.
Following the screening, Director Oku will be appearing for a short Q&A session.
NYT: Many of your films deal with drugs, and themes touching the darker side of life. What compels you to focus on these elements in your work?
SO: Many Japanese dramas are cheap these days (especially since most TV dramas are comedy). You have to make a drama that you, yourself, want to watch.
