TORONTO, Ontario - The Beguiling and the Toronto Public Library are proud to present TRIPLE THREAT: AN AWESOME COMICS AND MANGA EVENT, on Saturday October 15th from 2pm to 4pm at The Palmerston Library.
This event will feature three young Canadian graphic novelists working on books for a teen and young-adult readership, each told in very different styles. With material inspired by traditional superheroes, internationally successful video games and manga, Japan's hottest export of all time, there's something for readers of any taste or age at this event!
“These three young creators are working on the hottest comics and manga on the stands,” said Christopher Butcher, manager at The Beguiling. “Toronto has long been a hotbed of talented graphic novelists, and The Beguiling has been working to promote Canadian talent for almost 20 years. But we're particularly excited about working with the Toronto Public Library for this event, because these graphic novelists are doing groundbreaking work that will appeal to teens and young adults, in addition to the existing readership for comics and graphic novels. Grabbing readers when they're young promotes life-long literacy, and thanks to their popular format and price, these graphic novels are particularly accessible.”
The FREE event will run on Saturday, October 15 from 2PM-4PM at the Palmerston Library, 560 Palmerston (just east of Bloor & Bathurst). It is Free! to the public and will include a short talk by the authors, signings, and a chance to chat interact with the creators, as well as prizes and give-aways sponsored by Tokyopop, Udon, and The Beguiling.
GRAPHIC NOVELIST BIOGRAPHIES:
Adrian Alphona, artist on The Runaways for Marvel Comics. Alphona graduated from Toronto's George Brown College and immediately secured his first job on one of Marvel Comics' most acclaimed new series. Working with acclaimed writer Brian K. He is currently hard at work on the re-launch for Udon Comics' Street Fighter 2, exploring the further adventures of the fan-favourite video game characters.
