KC Global Media's GEM TV channel announced on Monday that it will shut down on August 1.
NTV and Sony Pictures Television launched the channel in 2015 as a subscription pay channel. The channel was initially available in Vietnam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Thailand, and later expanded to Singapore, the Philippines, and Malaysia. The channel focuses on Japanese content, including live-action shows and anime, but also broadcasts Chinese, Taiwanese, Hong Kong, and South Korean dramas and variety shows.
KC Global Media, a media company headed by former Sony Pictures Television executives Andy Kaplan and George Chien, acquired GEM along with the Animax Asia, Sony One, and AXN channels.
