Animax Asia revealed on Thursday that it will air the Music Girls (Ongaku Shōjo) television anime series. The series will premiere on May 28 at 8:00 p.m. GMT +8, with two episodes airing every Wednesday and Thursday.
The anime premiered in July 2018 and ran for 12 episodes.
The anime is based on the anime short that Studio DEEN produced for the Anime Mirai 2015 project. The story follows the protagonist Hanako Yamadaki when she encounters the obscure, low-selling 11-member "C-list" idol unit Ongaku Shōjo. Their producer Ikehashi thinks the unit needs a new member. Together, Ongaku Shōjo and Hanako strive for the top of the music world.
Yukio Nishimoto (Animal Yokocho, Najica Blitz Tactics, The Galaxy Railways) directed the television anime at Studio DEEN. Deko Akao (After the Rain, Amanchu!, Arakawa Under the Bridge, Flying Witch, Noragami) supervised and wrote the series scripts. Momoka Komatsu adapted the original character designs by Matsuri Santa for animation. King Records produced the music.
Yui Ogura performed the opening theme song "Eien Shōnen." The show's cast, under the unit name "Ongaku Shōjo," performed the ending theme song "Shining Peace."
