The Grudge Reboot Film's Red-Band Trailer Streamed
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Sony began streaming a red-band trailer for the Hollywood film reboot of The Grudge on Tuesday.
The film will open on January 3, 2020 after a delay from June 21, 2019. The film's cast includes Andrea Riseborough, Demián Bichir, John Cho, Betty Gilpin, Lin Shaye, and Jacki Weaver.
Nicolas Pesce is directing the film and writing the script. Jeff Buhler (Midnight Meat Train) and Pesce are credited with the story. Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, 30 Days of Night, The Grudge) is producing the remake with Rob Tapert and Taka Ichise (The Grudge/Ju-On, Shutter, Dark Water). Nathan Kahane, Erin Westerman, Brady Fujikawa, Andrew Pfeffer, Roy Lee, Doug Davison, John Powers Middleton, and Schuyler Weiss are executive producers.
Buhler previously said in 2014 that the film will not be a remake of Takashi Shimizu's 2004 American film with actress Sarah Michelle Gellar or Shimizu's own 2002 Japanese film, Juon: The Grudge.
The latest film in the series is 2015's Ju-On: The Final Curse (Ju-On: The Final), which was billed as the last film in the franchise. However, the franchise crossed over with the Ring franchise in the 2016 Sadako vs. Kayako film.
