Funimation screens film in N. America on August 16

Funimation began streaming an English-subtitled trailer for the live-action film of Yasuhisa Hara's Kingdom manga on Monday. The company will screen the film in the United States and Canada on August 16.

Funimation describes the film's story:

Orphaned by war, a young boy and his friend dream of changing their fate and becoming the world's greatest generals. And after his friend sacrifices himself to protect the future emperor, the young boy's path to greatness is set in motion.

Helping the King reclaim the throne puts the boy's blade to the ultimate test as they go against deadly assassins, large armies, and the dangerous mountain clan.

In a country torn apart by war, only they can fight to unite the warring states!

Funimation also screened the film at Anime Expo, which was held from July 4 to 7 in Los Angeles.

The film opened in Japan on April 19 and sold 506,861 tickets to earn 690,219,500 yen (about US$6.17 million) in its first three days. The film has sold a total of 4.11 million tickets for a cumulative total of 5,471,938,400 yen (about US$50.42 million).

Kento Yamazaki reprised his role in the film as protagonist Shin (Xin) from the manga's earlier live-action short. Shinsuke Satō (live-action Gantz, Death Note Light up the NEW world, Bleach) directed the film. Sony Pictures Japan produced the film. ONE OK ROCK performed the theme song "Wasted Nights" for the film.
