Nikkei Newspaper: Nintendo to Offer Smaller Switch Console
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Japanese financial newspaper Nikkei reported on Friday that Nintendo is planning to release a smaller version of its Switch gaming console as early as this year. The newspaper added that Nintendo has already discussed the release with suppliers and game developers.
The report cited a source that said that the new form factor is aimed at increasing the console's user base, emphasizing portability with its reduced size, and reducing the cost by cutting some features of the console.
It also noted that Nintendo will strengthen the console's online service, though it did not specify the nature of the update, noting only that it is aimed at enthusiasts who are willing to pay a higher subscription fee. Nintendo launched its Switch Online subscription service last September.
The Nintendo Switch console has sold 32.27 million units worldwide as of December 31.
