The official website for Back Street Girls: Gokudols (Back Street Girls -Yakuza Idols-), the live-action film adaptation of Jasmine Gyuh's Back Street Girls comedy manga, revealed a new trailer and poster visual for the film on Monday.
The film will open on February 8. Keinosuke Hara is directing the film, with a script by Shōichirō Masumoto and Hidehiro Itō.
The film will star Jin Shirasu, Reiya Masaki, Masato Hanazawa, Natsumi Okamoto, Ruka Matsuda, Akane Sakanoue, Tetsuya Sugaya, Nana Asakawa, Hitoshi Ozawa, Dōri Sakurada, Ren Ōsugi, and Kouichi Iwaki.
Kodansha Comics began publishing the manga digitally in English on August 14, and it describes the series:
Tough gangland retribution takes a disturbingly bright, shiny turn in this insanely guilty pleasure about 3 yakuzas who, as repayment for their failures, must undergo major surgery and become … a hot female idol trio! So what happens when they become the next big pop sensation!?
The manga launched in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine in March 2015, and ended on September 15. Kodansha published the manga's 11th compiled volume on June 6. The manga has more than 450,000 copies in print.
The manga inspired a television anime adaptation that premiered in Japan on July 3. Netflix launched the anime in the United States on December 12.
