K-BOOKS Retailer's Dōjinkan 2F Shop to Halt Consignment Sales of Dōjinshi for Women After 15 Years (Updated)
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
The K-BOOKS retailer announced on Friday that it plans to halt consignment sales of dōjinshi for women at its "K-BOOKS Dōjinkan 2F" shop in Tokyo's Ikebukuro area on December 16. The store's sister mail-order site CQ-web will then shut down on February 28, 2019. Dōjinshi circles will have until October 31 to add new works to the store and website.
K-BOOKS thanked fans for their patronage at the shop for the last 15 years.
While the announcement on Friday stated that K-BOOKS would stop consignment sales of dōjinshi for women altogether at the Dōjinkan 2F store, the Twitter account for the Dōjinkan 3F shop confirmed on Saturday that it will continue to sell and purchase dōjinshi for women. The two shops are located in the same building.
K-BOOKS has 12 other locations besides the "Dōjinkan" location, including one in Akihabara, nine in Ikebukuro, one in Nagoya, and one in Osaka. In some locations multiple store branches are located in the same building but on different floors.
Update: Article updated to note that the store itself is not specifically closing, but is halting consignment sales of dōjinshi for women.
