I think you read the announcement wrong...
They're not closing.
They're stopping accepting new dojinshi from artists. They'll still buy and sell used ones. (as in, an artist can't register their dojinshi to be sold in bulk or whatever).

Anyway, they're not closing.

I have to wonder about the reason for this...

Consignment sales of new doujinshi have always been sort of on the bleeding edge of the "gray area", since it's effectively selling your fanwork new at a retail store.

Doing it at limited time events like comiket yourself is the "original" doujinshi method, and the more recent trend of stores buying up a bunch of books news and selling them like normal wares (even if segregated into separate shops) has always been courting being too outwardly copyright violation-y.

But there are still 1000 other shops that do it so I don't know if that's the reason K-books is stopping. Maybe it's just not a particularly good business.
