The July issue of Gentosha's Monthly Comic Birz magazine (seen right) revealed on Wednesday that the magazine's August issue will be the magazine's last issue. The August issue will ship on June 30. The announcement noted that the magazine's "medium will change," and that the manga currently serializing in the magazine will continue. The magazine will reveal more details in the next issue.
Kodansha launched the magazine with the name Comic Burger in 1986. The magazine transferred to Scholar in 1988, and the company changed the magazine's name to Comic Birz in 1996. The magazine moved to Sony Magazines in 1999 after Scholar closed down. After Sony Magazines withdrew from the manga business in 2001, the magazine and its staff moved to Gentosha.
The manga has serialized such manga as Kei Toume's Lament of the Lamb, PEACH-PIT's Rozen Maiden, Hidekaz Himaruya's Hetalia - Axis Powers, Lily Hoshino's Otome Yōkai Zakuro, and Sakuya Amano's Konohana Kitan, all of which inspired anime adaptations. Otome Yōkai Zakuro and Konohana Kitan are still ongoing in the magazine, alongside Akari Funato's Under the Rose.
