The official website for the "D5 5-nin no Tantei" (D5 - Five Detectives) project began streaming a new trailer for the planned live-action film on Friday.
The site previously streamed a new teaser video on April 10.
The film will star five voice actors as the main characters:
- Hikaru Midorikawa as Mikio Kanai, a former FBI information analyst
- Daisuke Kishio as Kiyoka Yoshimoto, a hacker who works in the shadows
- Katsuyuki Konishi as Kōhei Yamasaki, a former bodyguard
- Daisuke Namikawa as Jōshi Yahagi, a martial arts expert
- Showtaro Morikubo as Keisuke Negiya, the heir to an international financial group
Junichi Kawamoto will also star in the film alongside the five main cast members.
Gen Takahashi will direct the film. The film will open on May 5, and the DVD and Blu-ray Disc release is slated for July.
A novel for the project and a soundtrack will debut in June. In addition, a manga for the franchise will debut in September. The franchise will also have four drama CDs, with the first drama CD slated for July.
Erumu Rento is credited for the original work, and will also direct the overall project and pen the scripts. Artist Yasutake Kawahito is the project's illustrator. The live-action film is the project's "first work."
The franchise's story starts in a playhouse, where five independent detectives are gathered around a table on the theater's stage. On the table lies the corpse of Kōichi Hachiyo, a wealthy young businessman in the international IT industry. Kōichi's friend, "Master Q," has called these five detectives together to find Kōichi's murderer. Master Q has already paid each of the detectives US$1 million, and if they can find the murderer within 48 hours, while hiding everything from the police, Master Q will pay them each an additional US$2 million.
