Author Ichiei Ishibumi and illustrator Miyama-Zero's High School DxD light novel series previously inspired three television anime series. Tetsuya Yanagisawa had directed all three series at TNK.
The light novel series centers on Issei Hyōdō, a dim-witted, lecherous second-year high school student who is killed by a girl on his first date ever. Issei is reincarnated as a devil, and from that day forward, he serves as an underling of Rias, a high-level devil who is also the prettiest girl on Issei's campus.
Ishibumi and Miyama-Zero launched the series in 2008, and Kadokawa released the 25th volume on March 20.
The first anime adaptation premiered in Japan in 2012, and the second series, High School DxD New, premiered in July 2013. The third series, High School DxD BorN, premiered in April 2015. FUNimation Entertainment released all three series on home video in North America.
