Actor Ren Osugi Passes Away at 66

Actor appeared in numerous Takeshi Kitano, Takashi Miike films; starred in Final Fantasy XIV Dad of Light series

The official website of the Zacco talent agency announced on Wednesday that Actor Ren Ōsugi passed away on Wednesday morning due to acute heart failure. He was 66. His family will hold a private funeral service.

Osugi was born in Tokushima prefecture on September 27, 1951. From 1974 to 1988, he worked as a stage actor in Shōgo Ōta's Tenkei Gekijō theater troupe. He made his debut as a film actor in 1978 in Banmei Takahashi's Kinbaku Ikenie film. The actor has appeared in films by prominent director Takeshi Kitano, including Sonatine, Hana-bi, as well as last year's Outrage Coda. He has also appeared in Takashi Miike's Dead or Alive film series.

He has appeared in many live-action adaptations of manga, including Weather Woman, Uzumaki, MPD Psycho, and Doing Time. He has voiced roles in the Origin: Spirits of the Past, Baton, and Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary films. He also recently played the role of the father in the Final Fantasy XIV Dad of Light live-action series.
