M&C! Licenses Blue Giant, Boys in Uniform Manga

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Manga slated for February 28

Indonesian publisher M&C! announced on Tuesday that it has licensed Shinichi Ishizuka's Blue Giant and Ringo Komori's Boys in Uniform (Seifuku Danshi to Amai Koto.) manga. Boys in Uniform and the first volume of Blue Giant will ship on February 28.

Blue Giant centers on Dai Miyamoto, who is in the basketball club in middle school. One day, his friend takes him to a live jazz performance, which touches him on a deep level. From that point on, he begins to practice the tenor sax by himself, with no formal education, and no ability to read sheet music. He aims to become the world's best saxophone player.

Ishizuka launched the manga in Shogakukan's Big Comic magazine in May 2013 and ended it in August 2016. Shogakukan published nine compiled book volumes for the manga. A month after ending the manga, Ishizuka launched a sequel manga titled Blue Giant Supreme in the same magazine. Shogakukan published the manga's third volume last October.

In 2008, Ishizuka was awarded the first ever Manga Taisho award for his Gaku mountain-climbing manga, and in 2009, it received the 54th Shogakukan Manga Award under the "General" category. A live-action film adaptation of the manga starring Shun Oguri also debuted in 2011.

Boys in Uniform collects five different one-shot manga that Komori published in Shogakukan's Betsucomi magazine. The "Hatsukoi Bonbon Chocolat" story centers on Yui, a studious and serious high school student, who receives an invitation for a date by Mizuki, a natural joker and her worst enemy. The "Junjō Karen" story focuses on a girl with a crush on delinquent. She pursues her love even though they live in different worlds. The "Kimi Omou Viola" story centers on a plain girl in love with her underclassman Kido, and whose crush was supposed to be a secret. The "Cherry no Koiwazurai" story centers around Kaori, a girl with no romantic experience, but who falls in love with the one person she shouldn't. The "Amai Kinenbi" story centers around Kaede, who falls in love when her smart but normally stoic classmate shows her a smile.

Shogakukan published the book in January 2017.

M&C! previously released Komori's Strawberry & Mille Feuille (Ichigo to Mille Feuille) manga last October.
