Super Mario Run Tops Apple's List of Free iPhone Games in 2017

Apple released its 2017 charts for the most popular apps, music, movies, TV shows, books, and podcasts on Thursday. Nintendo's Super Mario Run game topped Apple's list of free iPhone games in 2017. The game didn't rank on Apple's list of paid iPhone games.
The game launched for iOS devices in December 2016 and for Android devices in March. A one-time payment of US$9.99 grants unlimited access to the game's three modes. The game can also be downloaded at no cost, but players have limited access to each mode.
Super Mario Run is similar to other Mario platform games, but playable with one hand. The game has three modes. "World Tour" is the main gameplay mode featuring six worlds of platforming courses where Mario runs automatically. The "Kingdom Builder" mode allows players to customize their own kingdom using elements from the Mario series. The game also has a "Toad Rally" mode for competitive open-ended gameplay (with no flagpole at the end).
Nintendo game designer Shigeru Miyamoto revealed the game at Apple's Special Event in September 2016.
