posted on by Bayleigh Baker
The official Twitter account for the Encouragement of Climb anime franchise began streaming a trailer for the Yama no Susume: Omoide Present (Memories Present) original video anime (OVA) on Friday. The video features the anime's full theme song "Omoide Creators" by Yuka Iguchi and Kana Asumi. The CD single for the theme song ships on October 28.
In the OVA's story, Aoi and Hinata look at photographs of their memories together and recall their previous mountain climbs. Hinata opens a treasure box in Aoi's room to find a handmade and clumsily shaped accessory. After seeing the accessory, Hinata thinks back on a certain day the pair spent together when they were young.
The OVA will be about 28 minutes long. The OVA will have an event screening at 10 Aeon Cinema theaters on October 28.
The OVA and new third season of the anime, which will premiere in 2018, will feature the following returning cast:
- Yuka Iguchi as Aoi Yukimura
- Kana Asumi as Hinata Karaue
- Yōko Hikasa as Kaede Saitō
- Yui Ogura as Kokona Aoba
The OVA and new season also have the same staff. Yūsuke Yamamoto will return from the first two seasons to direct at studio 8-Bit. Yuusuke Matsuo returns as character designer and animation director, and Kazuyuki Fudeyasu is the scriptwriter. Tom-H@ck and yamazo are composing the music.
The anime is based on Shiro's Yama no Susume manga series. The manga inspired a 12-episode anime series in January 2013. Each episode of the first season was five minutes long. The second season, Yama no Susume Second Season, premiered in July 2014 and had 24 episodes. Each episode in the second season was 15 minutes long.
Crunchyroll streamed both seasons as they aired under the titles Encouragement of Climb and Encouragement of Climb Second Season.
The manga and anime tell the story of childhood friends: Aoi, a girl who prefers staying inside and who has acrophobia, and Hinata, a girl who loves mountains. The two decide to climb a mountain in order to once again see the Morning Sun from its peak as they did when they were young.
Shiro launched the manga in Earth Star Entertainment's Comic Earth Star magazine in 2011. The manga's 14th compiled book volume shipped in Japan on August 10. JManga published some of the manga in English before the site shut down.
